A great little costume top to match the Happy Nappy

Trying to get a swimsuit in my daughter's size is slightly difficult as she is so small but when she started lessons and I was told that she needed to wear the Splash About Happy Nappy I was slightly relieved as they were easy to find and purchase. The Happy Nappy is suitable for both boys and girls but as she is a little girl I did think about what she would wear as a top especially in this cold wear in order to keep her warm despite the water being around 34 degrees.

When I purchased my Happy Nappy I was offered a discount if I bought the matching Frou Frou top which is for girls only. It is basically a top made from a stretchy material which has lovely frills around the hem and around the arms. I thought it was a good idea as it covers her up and its bright colours are fun.

The Frou Frou Top is made by the same company as the Happy Nappy. Splash About is a company based in the UK and France who manufacture swimwear for child and adults and have done so for 20 years. They like to listen to swim teachers and parents views on items as ultimately these are the people who use them and know what is needed and what is not needed. Splash About ensure their products are safe, suitable and comfortable the child.

The Frou Frou Top is made from an incredibly soft swimming costume type material which is light to the touch and even lighter once it is on the child. It is designed to fit just like a swimming costume so it should be quite snug with a little room for movement but it should basically fit like a second skin.

My daughter's Frou Frou Top matches her Happy Nappy in pink and hot mango. Because of her petite size and frame the smallest size is a bit big on her but it still manages to be quite snug on her. The top fits just below her belly button with the striped frill around the hem going down to her hips, to be fair it does look like a dress on her and when she grows into it, it should just sit around her waist.

The Frou Frou top is just like any other top to put on so is incredibly easy and because the material is soft and stretchy even for babies who like to wriggle this top is easy to put over their head and put their arms through. You just have to make sure the frills have been tucked in anywhere as it may be a bit uncomfortable for the child.

Once in the water I did find that the top immediately comes up in and you do have to pull it down! Until the top gets wet and has a bit of extra weight to it, it won't stay down but once it's wet it stays down around the waist area. Because of its super lightweight material my daughter didn't find it irritating, it didn't bother her at all really but then to her it was just another top she was wearing! The fabric doesn't get heavy when wet so it doesn't weigh the child down at all which is the main thing. The only problem with is when we were doing different positions with her we did have to keep smoothing her top down as it kept riding up in the water and when the instructor was trying to show us where to place our hands it caused a bit of a problem with the frill at the hem covering up our hands! But as the top is used by a lot of other parents it is just something you have to get used to.

Once out of the water and the top like the Happy Nappy is easy to get off. It doesn't retain water so it's lightweight and is still incredibly stretchy so there are no issues removing it. Once wringed out it is instantly almost dry which is useful should you need to use it quite soon after using it the first time. However, the Frou Frou top can be put in the washing machine and it is recommended that you don't put it in the tumble drier and it should be left to dry naturally which doesn't take long at all.

The Frou Frou top is made for little girls and comes in either pink, blue or turquoise and is available in sizes small (0-4 months), medium (3-8 months), large (6-14 months), extra large (12-24 months) and xx large (toddler, 16kg +). On the Splash About website it is currently £12.99 but can be purchased elsewhere. I bought mine from the Splash About website as I managed to get a discount.

Overall, a lovely little item which really jazzes up the Happy Nappy. Suitable for all little girls!
