I seem to be forever buying baby wipes, keeping some in the bathroom beside the changing table, some in my changing bag and some at the high chair. I tend to stock up on wipes when they are on offer but I really don't mind trying unbranded wipes out, since some are just as good as the branded versions such as Boots wipes. The wipes in my changing bag were just coming to an end when I happened to be in my local Savers and noticed these Huggies Everyday Wipes retailing at 80p for a pack of 64 which was excellent value.
I almost always buy sensitive wipes so as not to upset my little girl's skin and although these wipes made no mention of being suitable for sensitive skin, I thought because they would be going in my changing bag for being out and about, I wouldn't therefore be using them all the time, and they would do the job. In fact, nowadays I tend to use more wipes to clean sticky hands and mouths rather than just dirty bums, so I took them anyhow.
The packaging of these wipes really makes them stand out, as the front is covered in colourful hand prints. It states on the packet that these wipes provide 'gentle and effective cleansing'. These wipes are alcohol free and each wipe contains a fresh cucumber scent, which you can smell on closer inspection. I like the smell of cucumber and it does always remind me of something fresh.
My biggest problem with these wipes is that I find them hard to get out of the pack- when you reach for one wipe, the only way to get a good grip seems to be by pulling out a handful of wipes at once, which is obviously a real waste, although I usually try to stuff them back in the packet. I also feel that if you are lucky enough to get one wipe out it can very easily tear as you pull it out, and therefore you can often need a second wipe anyhow.
All in all, although these wipes smell nice, I still would not use them everyday simply because I wouldn't trust them to totally protect my daughter's skin and I think they have the potential to irritate if used all the time. They are fine for occasional use, like when out and about but not anymore. I also think the fact that they are so hard to get out of the pack, and that one wipe can tear quite easily, they aren't quite as good value for money as they may initially seem.
- Why I Bought -
Huggies wipes aren't my favourite but if I see a good offer I tend to buy them anyway. Having been previously disappointed by how easily the Natural Care, Pure and Soft Skin wipes rip I should have known that the Everyday wipes would be equally disappointing. However, I noted these were cheaper than the other Huggies wipes and they were also on offer so I bought two packs.
- The Packaging -
The wipes come in a white packet which is covered in brightly coloured hand prints. This is cute, fun and compliments the Everyday name. The packet displays the Huggies brand and name of the wipes. It also states that these wipes are gentle, leave the skin feeling fresh and have a cucumber fragrance. There is all the usual information on the back. There is a plastic sticker to reseal the pack and keep the wipes moist. I find it difficult to remove the wipes from the pack because they rip very easily and all the wipes stick together so you end up with ten wipes in one go. As with the other Huggies wipes, this is the main down side.
- The Wipes -
You get 64 wipes in a pack which is a fairly standard amount for baby wipes. The wipes are white and have a teddy bear design. They smell lovely and fresh. You can smell the cucumber which is very light and refreshing. They are nicely moist but not too wet. They are really thick and soft which is good but as I have already said they rip very easily. They have no stretch to them at all and you can easily poke a hole in them, very unpleasant while wiping a dirty bottom! They clean faces and bottoms well and don't cause irritation to the skin so I would assume they are as gentle as the packet claims. Overall I do like the wipe, especially the smell but the ripping is very irritating.
- Price and Availability -
The standard price for these wipes is around £1 which I think is quite a good price for baby wipes. I paid around 80p per pack in Tesco which is even better! I'm not sure why these are cheaper than the other Huggies wipes but I'm not complaining! They are available in Boots, Superdrug and most supermarkets.
- Would I Recommend? -
I'm not sure I would recommend these wipes but perhaps they are worth a try as they are quite a good price. I love the smell and I like how thick, soft and moist they are but they rip way too easily which is irritating and impractical when changing nappies.
When it comes to baby wipes I tend to buy Pampers or Johnsons as I find that out of all my baby wipe testing I have come to the conclusion that I prefer these wipes over most other leading brands as well as supermarket brands. Huggies wipes have been a complete disappointment and I have always veered away from buying them as I find the texture of the wipes quite tough.
Being the bad mummy I am when I was in France earlier this year I had forgotton to pack wipes - now I had a pack in my daughter's changing bag but that was it. Fortunately, the first stop was a rather large Auchan and I was able to fully stock up on baby supplies and even though I only wanted wipes I did come away with quite a few baby toiletries! But back to the wipes I actually purchased from the Huggies range! The reason for doing so was that they were so well priced I couldn't not buy them.
The wipes I bought were the Huggies Everyday Wipes and even though I'd seen them back in the UK I'd never bought them but decided to give these wipes a chance. Purely on comparing price the Huggies Everyday Wipes are their basic wipe as they are far cheaper than their other wipes but this isn't a problem and I bought a couple of packs as baby wipes do certainly come in useful and not just used for changing a baby's bottom!
The Everyday Wipes come in a white plastic type pack which has images of hands all over in bright colours (similar to hand prints made out of paint!). The pack features the product name and the large 'Huggies' image on the front and on the back there is all the usual blurb you would expect on a pack of baby wipes. Back to the front of the pack there is a clear re-sealable tab which helps keep the wipes moist and doesn't let them dry out (secured properly that is). At the top of the front of the pack there is a little image of cucumber slices which indicate that the wipes do have a gentle fragrance.
The wipes are very much unlike that of the usual Huggies wipes as they are quite soft and not as quilted as others in their range. Basically, they are not as tough! However, the wipes in comparison are actually rather small in size and are quite thin and they do feel a bit flimsy. Now I know they are the budget range for Huggies but they could at least have made them a bit more user friendly.
After visiting their website the Huggies Everyday Baby wipes are designed more for wiping faces and cleaning hands than cleaning a baby's bottom. Personally, I don't buy separate wipes for cleaning my daughter's face as I just use whatever pack of wipes I have with me and it does the job just fine. However, I did use the Everyday Wipes a few times for changing her nappy as I had to but I did invest in thicker wipes the next day!
Because of their flimsy texture they are perfect for wiping a food covered face and cleaning sticky hands but I did find that I needed to use a couple of wipes to get my daughter clean as the wipes don't stand up for much and can actually tear quite easily so clearing up after a child has decided to self feed herself, the cat and her high chair tray these wipes just cannot withstand this and all they are then only really good for is wiping grubby hands when out and about.
As for the cucumber fragrance this is actually the only really good part of the wipes as it is a fresh aroma as Huggies promise and it makes a nice change to other baby wipes which all seem to have that soft, delicate almost creamy fragrance. However, the cucumber smell soon disappears once the wipes have been used but no matter how many times you use the same pack of wipes the fresh aroma stays until you've used the very last wipe.
Overall, I don't think I'd recommend these wipes unless of course you buy separate wipes for wiping your child's mouth and hands which I don't as I don't really want to be carrying two separate packs of wipes around with me! They are too thin and flimsy to be used properly and they are actually quite small in size so you end up using so many wipes they are certainly not purse friendly as even though they are cheap you can easily get through one packet in half the time of your usual decent wipes. The only positive is the fragrance, it's nice and fresh but that's about it!
I award these wipes 2 stars and that's being generous. I personally wouldn't waste my money again and I wouldn't recommend them.
