Before my daughter was born, like most mums to be I was inundated with vouchers for money off nappies especially with the leading brands of Pampers and Huggies, and so anytime I saw offers on these brands of nappies I bought in advance of the birth. One such pack that I bought ahead were these Huggies Natural Fit nappies, but since my daughter has only recently started using size 3 nappies, I have only just starting using these natural fit nappies, as they only start at size 3.
My daughter wears reusable nappies during the day but she always wears a disposable at night time as I feel that she will sleep better when she is dry, and a disposable probably does keep her drier than any reusable. I have already went through a pack of size 3 Pampers baby dry nappies, and was very pleased with how dry they kept her, so I was interested to see if these natural fit nappies would keep up with their rival brand. I have used huggies newborn nappies and been very happy with their quality.
A 56 pack of these natural fit huggies nappies costs £9.98 currently in Tesco, not cheap, although I
bought them when on offer and had an additional voucher making them slightly more reasonable. Huggies claim that these nappies offer organic cotton and vitamin E to ensure comfort for your baby and protection for their skin. They are also designed to provide high absorbency with an 'advanced pad' which should provide up to 12hours of dryness as well as a breathable outer layer to let baby's skin remain 'fresh and dry' and avoid nappy rash. The waistband of this nappy also has a 'cuddle fit' allowing your baby to move with the nappy and provide a 'great fit'.
When I first took a nappy out of the pack I noticed a big difference in the feel of it in comparison to the pampers nappies I had been using at night. They were much softer, and you could feel the richness of the cotton. In fact it felt very different from any other nappy I had used previously. These nappies have a cute little disney design at the front, not that my daughter cares, but they were easy to put on, and I did feel that they fitted her well, especially around the waist.
She has been wearing these nappies for over a week now at night, and she has been sleeping sound - not that she is a bad sleeper at night anyway but they had obviously kept her dry, that she is not wakening and that is with her sleeping solidly for almost 8 hours. I cannot say whether the nappy would continue to keep her dry for the full 12 hours as claimed, as she still takes a a late feed where she gets her nappy changed, but I am pleased that they work for the 8 hours she sleeps through. In the morning, the nappy is usually very heavy from wetness but this has obviously not bothered her.
All in all, these nappies are pretty expensive at full price, however they do do what they claim to do, in that they offer my baby daughter comfort and dryness which is really what I want from a nappy. I like the material used in the nappy however whether I think it is worth paying the bigger amount for these nappies I'm not sure, as I don't think they offer her any more absorbency than cheaper nappies. However, when on offer I would certainly purchase another pack of these nappies.
There are quite a few brands and makes of nappies on the market and finding one to suit your child can be a challenge, especially if like my daughter they are very slim and have no real waist! My daughter is only just 14lb at nearly 10 months old and is very petite.
When it comes to nappies my daughter has always suited Pampers better than any other brand or make. However, recently on offer in Co-op were the Huggies nappies and now she is bigger and has bulked out slightly I thought I may give them a go especially as they were cheaper than Pampers and may just suit her now she is a bit bigger.
My nappy of choice from the Huggies range were the Natural Fit. Huggies do a variety of different styles of nappy and I have tried the Newborn variety which I didn't like at all. However, the Natural Fit claim to do as the product name and fit your baby naturally (however natural a nappy can be on a baby!)
The packaging for the nappies differ from the other Huggies range as they come in a peach coloured plastic packaging which like all other nappy packs is almost vacum packed around the nappies! On the front there is a picture of a baby modelling the nappy as well as the Huggies logo and the product name. There is of course the size guide on the front of the pack giving details of the size of nappy and the relevant weight guide.
Huggies Natural Fit nappies are the only nappy currently on the market (Huggies words not mine!) that are made with organic cotton and Vitamin E which provide your baby with a lot of comfort whilst wearing a nappy. Both organic cotton and Vitamin E help care for your baby's skin as it is so delicate.
When I opened the pack of nappies I was expecting them to be a little more colourful especially when Huggies use Winnie The Pooh to pattern their nappies and compared to Pampers Acti Fit which are brightly coloured I found that the Natural Fit were dull but I guess this goes with their 'natural' stance as the Winnie The Pooh characters are pale yellow and green and only feature one image on the back (with the size number) and one image on the front and thats it. Very plain and I guess natural.
I found the Huggies Newborn Nappies ridiculously big and bulky and I was a little aprehensive with these nappies but when I pulled one out the packet I found that actually they were quite slim and more compact than even the Pampers which was nice as I do find that some nappies on my daughter can be quite bulky. They were incredibly soft to the touch and on the inside of the nappy (which is against your baby's skin) was even softer which was nice as I knew it wouldn't irritate my daughter's skin.
The Natural Fit nappies feature a "Cuddle Fit" waistband which is unique to Huggies and this ensures that the nappies will provide a great fit around your baby especially when they are on the move. The waist band is nice and wide with a lot of give to it but compared to other leading brands it isn't ridiculously long when fully stretched out and fits nicely around my daughter instead of being able to go round her twice! The sticky tabs are a bit like a velcro type material and stick to the nappy well, sometimes a bit too well!
Despite the nappy being quite slim and not bulky the pad ensures for long lasting absorbency and Huggies promise that their nappies offer great protection and dryness and I can't complain as I have never had any leaks from these nappies at all. Even if my daughter has been wearing it for a while it hardly bulks up at all and thus doesn't give my daughter any discomfort. I am pleased with how slim the nappy stays when its been used for about 3 hours. It manages to absorb everything and keep my daughter dry and protected. The outer cover of the nappy is incredibly breathable and therefore lets your baby's skin breath and stays fresh, this also helps prevent nappy rash. My daughter has never had nappy rash in her 10 months so I am always trying to prevent a little outbreak and these nappies have kept her well protected and dry and haven't irritated her skin in the slightest.
Overall, I think my faith has been restored in Huggies nappies as these fit my daughter really well. I can't recommend them enough! They keep her dry, her skin isn't irritated and best of all they really don't bulk up to much which compared to some which balloon when they have absorbed liquid they make it uncomfortable for my daughter and these don't. I would definitely recommend them to all parents. They give a great fit and comfort to any baby. 5 stars from me!
Huggies Natural Fit are available from all good supermarkets and cost in the region of £9.99 for a pack of 48. Prices may vary depending on the retailer or offers that they may have on.
