~~The Product: 'Sainsbury's Basics Baby wipes x 80' ~ 'Baby Boomer'~~
Another 'no nonsense' product in the Sainsbury's basics range. The wipes come in a sturdy but soft plastic wrap with a practical thin plastic peel back cover for easy access and efficient way to ensure contents are kept moist. The familiar 'basics' noting the product comes in appealing bright red lettering.
The reverse of the label furnishes most useful information such as the 'leaping Bunny' symbol showing this to be another 'Cruelty free cosmetic' category of products provided by the Sainsbury Company. Manufactured in the UK and ingredients listed as 'Aqua, Citric Acid, Glycerin, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Parfum.
Sainsbury's declare this product to be one as 'everyday design, everyday use'. So how useful have these proven to be thus far?
~~My Usage Experience ~ 'Baby Blues'~~
I was introduced to these by my daughter. She had purchased them as an inexpensive top up to her usual purchase of a very much more expensive brand. I like to keep plenty of wipes available for when I babysit the grand-tots at my home. So, how do I find these fair against other dearer brands?
Firstly, I will mention that this Basics range is as practical and easy to open than the majority of higher priced wipes. The simplistic easy to peel back label reveals fresh subtle fragranced wipes. The wipes come out individually without the frustrating two and upwards gathering of many expensive cleansers. But one is in no doubt upon feeling the first wipe; these are not thick, tough or luxurious!
The wipes are smaller in size than more of the costly ranges. The wipes are substantially thinner also; hands are detectable underneath the wipe when holding in the palm of my hand! In defence of the budget priced product, the wipes are soft to the touch, certainly smooth enough for a toddler's delicate skin. I say 'toddler's skin' because although these are adequately fleecy enough for an older baby, I wouldn't use these on a new born to six month baby! They fail to feel as soft as I'd feel comfortable to use on the fragile skin of a very young baby and they contain ingredients that I likewise feel unsuitable for the same reason.
My two year old grand-daughter seems to feel happy no matter the brand; all she wants is to feel clean and fresh for her busy day of pulling out whatever mummy is trying to tidy away! :~) When I use the wipes on my grand-daughter, I tend to need three or more on each application to remove any 'gifts' she has left! The wipes feel moist enough for the task in hand but far too limp and small to use singularly. Even at three and up per application they are inclined to roll up and cease to retain adequate shape contrary as other dearer wipes. These wipes have another down side; non flushable!
Apart from a bargain back up to the more efficient brands, these wipes do not prove to be as economical as first thought! Well, not for the intended use, but what about other purposes? Have they proven to be more effective and valuable to employ around the home etc.?
~~Monitors, keyboard and mice...the inanimate kind!~~
Because the wipes are not overly moist I can safely use them to clean the grime that builds up through regular use on the above technical devices. The monitor comes up gleaming with just a couple of the swishes across the screen. Moist enough to gather dust into the corner and scooped up ready for disposal, any little fingerprints from 'Moshi Monster' enthusiast are removed without effort. The wipes roll up small enough to shape around the keys on the console leaving them sanitized and clean. I disconnect the mouse to avoid it running amuck on clicking the 'tintanet. And give it a one wipe wonder to cleanse the control, leaving it shiny and ready for use. I even use the wipes to lift the dust off the whole PC leaving it dust free and radiant without spreading the particles around.
~~'A Picture Paints A Thousand Words'!~~
These little gems will remove water based pencils, paints etc. with ease. My grand-daughter got hold of my grand-son's water colours and adorned my white walls with her artistic endeavours. The paint came off without any difficulty at all, leaving the walls as bright and unmarked before my grand-daughter's version of a 'Monet'!
~~Blinds, awkward hard to reach designs on furniture and table tops~~
These wipes won't go far on venetian blinds due to many slats, but if you don't mind using up near on the whole pack, these moistened nuggets with lift the dust and grime build-up with one swipe of slat in turn. They will be left so shiny and clean without any damage whatsoever. The wipes are gentle enough to use on the most fragile of furnishings. I use the cleaners on the wood strips on the backs of chairs and underneath that hold the seat together. Moist enough to clean sticky finger-marks, general dirt and dust build up without causing damage to the wood. These quick drying cleaners leave a sparkling shine to even the oldest pieces of furniture. As added caution, I finish off my using wood spray polish to ensure protection on the wood veneer. These wipes will make short work of table top spillages of most kinds except porridge! Unless I use them as soon as porridge spills, the hardened cereal will not be removed with these feebler of cleansers.
My grand-tots simply adore 'sharing' their sticky chocolaty fingers on Nanny's clothes. My latest experience was yesterday when one of my grand-sons managed to get melted chocolate on the clothes I had just popped on after my shower. One wipe removed both marks, dessert spoon in size off with a few strokes of these multi-purpose beauties!
~~'No Skin Off My Nose'...hands, faces!~~
My youngest grand-son is suffering from a constantly runny nose at the moment and I find these wipes are so delicate in removing mucus and all without causing soreness or rashes. Wiping my grand-children's faces is 'child's play' with this product. The wipes removes anything the tots can splatter on except dark coloured lipstick, found this out this morning when the youngest toddler got hold of her mummy's red lippy!
I keep these cheap and cheerful treasures in my handbag as hand sanitizers when eating out. Although I need to use three or four a time, they work in cleansing and freshens my hands before eating. If we think of all those little germs that can't wait to be transferred onto our hands from railings and alike, it is such a smashing protection to have these sanitizers 'on hand'!
~~'In the cooler'!~~
When we experience that phenomenon called 'Sunshine' I like to keep the package of wipes in the beach bag as a coolant when things get a little too hot for comfort! A wipe over the face leaves the skin fresher and a little cooler for comfort.
~~'Time to Vent'!~~
I use a couple of thin elastic bands to secure a wipe or two to my broom head, (must be the way i comb my hair!) then 'sweep' the ceiling of the odd cob web. The webs come off in one stroke! The vents in my kitchen and bathroom soon get covered in unattractive dust and grime; a few of these wipes remove all of the soiled offenders leaving the vents as if new!
~~Paws for thought!~~
Safe and effective little wipes make short work of cleaning dirty paw prints when pets come indoors. I found this a real help in avoiding damage and soiling of furnishings in the home.
~~Seal The Deal!~~
I hate the sickly taste of envelope seals....doesn't everyone? :~) Well, whether I have one or many envelopes to seal, one or two wipes are sufficient to cover the whole lot! I gently wipe the seal surface with the wipe and 'hey Presto' job done!
~~'It's in The Can'!~~
Ever wondered what reclines on your drink cans whilst waiting for pick up from stockist? I watched a program on this subject and have since used a wipe to cleanse the top and finger pull, which partly ends up in drink after opening, with a wipe! Now I feel that handing a can of refreshment to the children takes the anxiety from my mind!
This is by no means an exhausted list of the uses I find for these affordable wipes but I fear I have lost the majority of interest thus far :~D
~~Would I Recommend? ~ 'Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart' - Winne the Pooh :~)~~
Yes but only as a back-up for when running out of a more effectual brand, generally much dearer unless on offer.
But if you want to employ these simple wipes for multi uses other than for the intended purpose, they are one of my first choices. They are inexpensive and effective on a multitude of uses. They are gentle on the most delicate of surfaces. With a full 80 wipes and at only 57p a pack, these wipes are a fundamental cleanser in our current economy! These wipes are available in store or online at
Thank you for taking the time to read my review on these basic but 'everyday use' wipes :~)
Summary: inexpensive wipes, fair for intended purpose but brilliant for all else!
