“ Brand: Superdrug / Type: Disposable Nappies „
Its a while ago now that I bought these nappies but I had to write a review- if I stop just one person from buying these I've done a good job!
I bought these whilst out in town with a friend. I was very low on the money at time (I'm sure many other mothers have been there) and simply couldn't afford a pack of pampers. I bought a small pack of superdrugs own brand as it was dirt cheap.
Now I'm not silly, I didnt expect the quality you get from pampers at a fraction of the price. What i didnt expect was the rough thin excuse for a nappy that greeted me upon opening the pack. These nappies really didnt feel as if theyd be comfortable. I also noticed they were very thin. Having little choice I put them on my son not long before he went to bed.
When he woke in the morning his entire babygro was soaked through as were his sheets. I wasnt hugely concerned, he had soaked through nappies before (including pampers) as he slept through the night at this stage and weed a lot! Thinking it was a one off I stuck another one on him after changing and cleaning him. I was wrong, within an hour or 2 he again was soaked through.
I ended up having to borrow nappies off my mother in law for the next few days until we had money to buy a better brand!
I would not reccomend these to anyone, your baby wouldnt be any worse off without a nappy even on!
The Superdrug Nappies Im reviewing are a different size to those in the picture.
When it comes to buying Jayden's nappies I use different brands such as Tesco own brand and Pampers, however I recently was shopping in Superdrug and remembered that I need to stock up on nappies, I had a look around and decided to give Superdrugs own brands a try, I have used other products which are Superdrugs own brand and have been extremely pleased with them so I was hopeful that these would be the same, I went for the Mini size which were suitable for his weight and size.
The Superdrug Nappies Mini come in a bright green plastic wrapper which is tightly wrapped around the nappies holding them in place, on the front of the packet is an elephant in white, inside this is the Superdrug logo consisting of a silver star outline and the name of the product "Nappies Mini", just beneath this is a sentence about the nappies. On the right hand side of the packet is a large number 2 with the word Mini written underneath and weights beneath this stating the size of the nappies and the baby size that they will fit, towards the bottom of the packet is information about the nappies in the form on small pictures.
On the back of the packet the size of the Superdrug Nappies is repeated and in the centre of the packet is a picture of one of the nappies with arrows pointing to different sections describing what each bit is. There are also warnings on the back of the packet and the other nappy types you can get in this range. On the top of the packet of nappies is a clear plastic handle making carrying them easy.
The Superdrug Nappies on first appearances look pretty standard compared to other brands I have tried, they are stretchy and elasticised around the legs as well as the back of the nappy designed for comfort and flexibility as your baby moves around and plays, the elasticised waist and leg cuffs are also designed to protect against leaks.
The nappies also have an absorbent core to help keep your babies skin dry as well as preventing leaks, this also has a breathable top sheet for your baby's comfort, another feature of these nappies is the front of the nappies have reduced material around your baby's belly button which helps to prevent infection whilst your baby's cord is healing, for us this is not a problem as Jayden is over 4 months old, however some babies may need a larger nappy from an earlier age before their cord has fully healed so these nappies have been designed to accommodate this.
The nappies fasten in the normal way with a sticky tab on the back of either side of the nappy which pulls around your babies sides and fastens at the front. The nappies as I have mentioned are plain white, they have a pale purple strip across the front of the nappies, in the centre of this is a mouse's head in pink with blue and yellow flower shapes either side. Appearance wise the Superdrug Nappies looked just like other brands of nappies and promised the same thing of preventing leaks and being comfortable for your baby to wear.
The Superdrug Nappies come in a variety of sizes ranging from sizes 1 to 5, these are designed to fit babies weighing from 2 - 5Kg (4 - 11lb) up to 11 - 25Kg (24 - 55lbs) We purchased the Size 2 nappies which are called Mini and are designed to fit a baby weighing 3 -6Kg (6 - 13lbs) Jayden has only recently moved up to this size and for a long time used the smallest size nappy, however these fitted him comfortably.
Price and Availability
These nappies are obviously only available from Superdrug as they are their own brand, the pack of 45 nappies cost just over £4.00, I didn't this was a too bad price really, they were a little cheaper compared to other brands and you also got more nappies for your money, so providing the nappies lived up to their promises they would work out excellent value for money.
When I first tried the Superdrug Nappies on Jayden I was pleased with the fit, they fitted snugly around Jayden's waist with plenty of room for movement, the elasticised waist and legs also helped the nappies fit nicely. Although I was pleased with the fit of the nappies I wasn't overly pleased with the design on the front of them, normally the design on the front of nappies is unisex unless stated, however I personally thought these were aimed more at girls rather than boys, the pink and purple colour combination in my opinion is definitely girly and not something I would choose to put Jayden in, I feel that there should be other colours on the nappies to make them suitable for both boys and girls or they should state that the design is suitable for either girls or boys. Despite the design of the nappies I decided that I was still going to use the nappies as I had purchased them and I was pleased with the fit so thought they would be ok, however my opinion soon changed.
I put one of the nappies on Jayden just before his afternoon nap, by the time he woke up a short time later I noticed that the front of his trousers were soaked right through, so much so that when I picked him up my top also ended up wet, after taking off his wet clothes it seemed that the legs of the nappy had leaked, I thought it may just be a one off however I wasn't that lucky. I have now stopped using these nappies as I was going through so many outfits, I could not put Jayden in these nappies and take him out as I would either have to change him every few minutes or take several outfits with me in case of leaks, I was very disappointed with these nappies, despite the good fit and the promise of them being leak proof they certainly failed.
They were reasonably priced however in my opinion not worth the money, I have wasted my money on these as I will not be using the rest of the pack, what I saved on the nappies I am using on having to use more nappies and also doing more washing where they have leaked all over Jayden's clothes. I will certainly not be purchasing these again and definitely would not recommend these to anyone.
