“ Brand: Wilkinson / Type: Wipes „
A couple of weeks ago I was in my local Wilkinsons store and noticed that they had an offer on their baby wipes, as this is a range we haven't tried before and they were a good price I decided to give them a try, picking up the packet it was pretty soft rather than firm like the more expensive brands. The wipes are slightly fragranced and sell at 98p for a packet of 80 wipes however the offer was that you could buy 2 packets for £1.50.
The wipes come in a lilac packet so I am not sure why the above picture is different unless they have recently changed their packaging, the top half of the packet is lighter in colour than the lower half and there are little white outlined clouds floating around the top half and then a sheep jumping a fence on the bottom half of the packet. The packet opens in the middle with a pull back sticky plastic piece which can then be pressed back down to reseal, I should point out the stickyness of this part does wear out about half way down the packet. It states on the packet that the wipes have added baby lotion, have soothing aloe vera and chamomile and are formulated to halp prevent the causes of nappy rash.
The wipes inside are white in colour and of normal size for a baby wipe, the wipes aren't very thick and if you hold then up you can see right through them, at the beginning of the packet the wipes are not very moist although they do get more moist as you go down the packet. The wipes have a clean type smell but of nothing specific and the smell is certainly not strong. The wipes are very soft to the touch and they scrunch well when you are wiping.
I would say that these wipes are ok but they are not the best, the wipes are not thick enough or moist enough and you end up using more wipes than you would with the more expensive brands so it is really false economy to buy these. Whilst using these wipes my daughter hasn't suffered with any nappy rash although she doesn't get this much anyway. They do the job you just need extra wipes to complete the messier jobs so I would much prefer to buy the better brands on offer and get the best value for my money that way.
Wilko Baby Cotton Soft Wipes
(Similar version of same review on Ciao)
As we all know, even those who haven't had babies yet, the essentials alone can cost and arm and a leg to purchase, so what better place to go for all these bits and pieces than a cheaper shop which sells quality products? I have been buying most of my daughters wipes at Wilko since she was born just over two years ago and still continue to use these wipes for my daughter.
There are many cheaper shops which you have to be wary of when purchasing items, especially baby items, though from experience, I knew that I was in safe hands buying numerous items from Wilkinsons. Their prices are fair and often very cheap, yet they are the same quality products as can be found in other, more expensive shops. More often than not, their prices are knocked down even further by money off deals! I have never had a problem with any items such as this which I have brought here, so off I went armed with two baskets (well my husband was armed with the two!) in seach of well needed necessities (and some other luxuries for me!)
It may sound silly, but the first thing that actually drew me to this product was the lovely pink wrapping - ever since finding out we were having a baby girl, I just can not help myself and my daughter seems to love pink already which is great - I always wanted a girly girl!
Wilko's baby cottonsoft wipes are fragrance free, although from experience with my sister using them with her baby, they do have a very slight fragrance - though this is barely noticeable and is actually quite nice. They have been formulated with baby lotion to gently and effectively cleanse the baby's skin and are extremely soft to the touch, and luckily very strong and durable (Trust me, you need that with a baby!).
The wipes are of average size and leave no residue on either your hands or the baby's skin and come in packs of 80.
******The Bottom Test!******
Using these on my daughter was simple and pain free.
As with most baby wipes, it had a simple cover flap which opened easily and could be resealed for freshness. When pulling one out, they did not all stick together like some do, either, which was a great start.
Now I know some people would be dubious about something so cheap being that effective, but please read on and this may change your mind.
As mentioned above, although they say they are fragrance free, they do have a very soft fragrance - one you associate with babies - the nice and soft smell not the dirty nappy smell!
The feel of the wipes was barely noticeable as they were extremely soft on my skin - perfect for my daughters delicate skin. There was also no stickiness or residue left on the skin, as some wipes do tend to leave. They are also very strong, it took a lot of pulling to actually rip it apart, and it did not even fray at all when I began using it to clean my daughters bottom!
When wiping, they managed to pick up all that was needed and I found that you did not even need a lot of the wipes to get the job done right, which is great as you can get through absolutely loads of baby wipes. My nephew did not even seem to notice he was having his nappy changed which was great as some other, not so soft wipes, left him wriggling in discomfort and often caused a slight rash afterwards, which I am happy to say that this one did not.
I did notice afterwards that the flap tended not to stick quite as well for as long as some others did, though if you put them in a plastic baby container it will help the freshness stay well.
As mentioned above, the packaging is a delightful pink in colour (not that it matters much!!) and has a stork pattern over it. The peel back flap is white and holds the name of the product, the shop name and 'dermatologically tested' upon it as well as another picture of a stork and baby. Actually very sweet!
The pack is of average wipe size and is rectangle in shape, holding 80 wipes which are pulled out one by one easily.
Baby wipes can be very expensive after all the packs you need to buy, so these being sold at £1.24 each pack is perfect! As mentioned above, Wilko's also often do offers and when I brought my packs they were doing a buy one get one free, making them only 72p each! A bargain!
Would I recommend this product?
Yes most certainly! Not only is it a fabulous low cost, but they are effective and perfect for a baby - as soft as a baby's bottom! The wipes are durable and do not rip easy or leak anything through onto your hands which you would prefer to keep in the nappy and on the wipe, and they smell lovely too.
Wilkinson's offer a cash back guarantee which means if you are not happy with the product they will give you your money back, though I can personally guarantee that you wont want to after trying these wipes.
These baby wipes are wilkinsons own brand of wipes. The number of wipes in the packet is 80. The price of these wipes is at the moment £1.09. The wipes are advertised as fragrance free and indeed there is no smell to them. They are wet to touch but there is no excess moisture on them. The wipes remain in their simple but effective packaging and can be accessed through a hole in the top of the packaging. The wipes are all joined to together but the idea is that upon removing a wipe, it will tear away from the next wipe, leaving that next wipe ready to use sticking out the top of the packet.
As for the wipes themselves, they are the size of a small hankerchief, they are very light but I find the texture of them to be rough. I would not recommend these wipes for a new born baby but rather one that is 6 months old plus as I believe they could cause irritation.
All in all, quite cheap and decent but not the best kind of wipe around.
When it comes to my hand bag it really is a bottomless pit! I cart so much about with me I'm surprised I'm not hunchbacked by my age lol! One of the things I do like in my bag is some baby wipes for on the go freshen ups and emergencies. As someone who likes to party you never know when I need to quickly remove make up or if I've stayed out all night (on the odd occasion lol) need to have a sort of wash and in the day times I like them for wiping my hands as I'm a smoker and don't like to think I'm smelly and/or grimy. Although they are theoretically baby wipes us gals find alot of ways to use these, I'm sure lol!
Not the same as on the review photograph at all although called exactly the same thing and all I can think is maybe the packaging has recently changed. My packet is light blue, oblong and plastic. On the front there is a photograph on the left hand side of a baby boy, then in the centre on a light and dark blue background in dark blue and white writing I'm told they are Baby, Cotton Soft Wipes, Gently Fragranced 'Soft and gentle wipes with added baby lotion. Formulated to help prevent the causes of nappy rash'. Then on the right hand side of the packet I'm told they are dermatologically tested and contain 24 wipes and that they are lotion enriched cotton soft wipes. On the back of packet I'm again told what they are and who they are by, a bit about the product, directions for use, cautions, ingredients are listed, contact details for Wilko and a cash back promise if your not entirely satisfied with the product are given, I'm told to bin them after use and not to flush the and finally there is a bar-code on there. All in all it's a basic packet but at the same time doesn't scream it's economy or anything. I do like the plastic see-through seal on the front that you open to pull out a wipe and close when it's done as it's very sticky and although the hole gets damp from pulling wipes through it it always seals keeping my remaining wipes moist enough and fresh.
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Packet....
Baby cotton soft wipes have been formulated with baby lotion to gently and effectively cleanse baby's skin. Each wipe is soft and strong, ideal for use at baby change and feed time. The wipes are easy to remove leaving your other hand free for baby. Ideal when travelling and for your change bag.
The Wipes Themselves....
Well first off let me tell you this! Not once have I managed to pull one wipe out of the packet one handed at any given time lol. Even with two hands I seem to get about six out and then I have to shove the one's I don't need back in the packet any way I can thus making it difficult to get one out next time! One hand left for a baby? I don't think so!
The wipe itself is white, oblong and made of cotton as promised though it really isn't massive and is slightly oblong in shape. Although strong you can see through sections of the material although pull it and stretch it, it doesn't tear at all so it really is a strong wipe.
It isn't all that moist and it is highly fragrant. Expecting somewhat of a baby sort of smell these surprised me alot. To me they smell rather grown up and floral although sweet enough with a creamy smell. The smell is one I love but as I say to me is a rather grown up smell.
I use them to remove make up in a hurry, wipe over my body for a freshen up or as I said earlier...wipe my hands etc and they are really great. They are none sticky and leave the skin feeling softer slightly and highly fragranced and that smell stays apparent for a couple of hours after using them. I really value them as something that works in my bag and one day I was round at a friends house and her coffee table for dirty and it bothered me so I used one of my wipes to clean that and again it worked really well lol.
I have no children and these are baby wipes after-all. Well the other day I had to (in an emergency) look after my neighbours 2 year old little boy. She threw him at me with a changing bag and I was literally left holding a baby. Not exactly well practised with kids I had no real clue what I was doing till I smelt a rancid nappy smell and yep you guessed it the toddler was caked in stuff! Grossed me out I can tell you that much! Well to cut a long, horrific story short I had everything I needed in the bag BUT wipes so I grabbed mine. Well what a mess I got into lol. I wiped away the debris first with some loo roll and then wiped his bum with these and I got in a right royal mess. First I couldn't get one or two wipes out, I got poo on my hands and then all over the clean wipes I didn't want to use that I was trying to put back in the packet. Then the wipe wasn't moist enough to wipe off the now dried on poo! I did get the poor little blighter clean with them but it took a wee bit of rough wiping and several wipes though I was pleased he was clean after and did smell great!
So on the baby changing front... nope I wouldn't bother it makes a meal of the task! They were ok when I gave him crisps and got him to wipe his hands afterwards by me jumping up and down with a wipe doing the same thing, just remind me to not give a two year old nik naks again lol. For me though for dirty tasks they just seem a bit too dry and I'm not just saying that about when you've had them a while either as the packet I'm referring to was a new pack!
Great for personal use, though they don't work out all that economical in the long run as you have to use a few at a time. They do work though and do leave where you've wiped feeling slightly moisturised in a none greasy way and do leave behind a very pleasant fragrance indeed. Me... I'd buy them again for me but not to use on children as I felt traumatised using them and I'm sure changing a nappy shouldn't be that challenging! lol.
Wilkinson Baby Wipes!
For all you parents like there, you will know as I do how many of these damn things you can go through. I recently stumbled across an offer in Wilkinsons allowing me to purchase two packets of baby wipes for around £1.20! I thought to myself "normally you pay that for one packet". I bought a few packets to try and was pleasantly suprised. The packet contains 80 wipes and come in fragrened or none fragrenced. The fragrenced is a pink packet and the npne fragrenced is in the blue packet. The wipes do not have the clever little plastic contraption on the front to stop your wipes drying out but do have a sticky seal. The wipes are quite damp but are not soaking like some are and do the job fine. My family tends to have problems with skin and come up with alsorts of red blemishes when using some products but my child has never had any problems when using these.
The offer is on most of the time but the odd occasion they will not be so watch out. I tend to purhcase around £5 worth at a time and they last me ages.
These wipes are great for those on a budget but do not look hideously cheap as some brands do!
Give them a try! xx
Fragrance free. With baby lotion for a gentle clean.
