AbidjanNewest Review: ... buying anything we decided to head for the two massive buildings overlooking Abidjan, one a Roman Catholic Church and the other a hotel ‘the Hotel de Ivory’ both splendid sites from where we were. As it seemed some distance to the hotel we decide to take a taxi which went thru some very poor and poor looking places where I felt we were very out of place and quite bluntly guilty. My camera was quickly put away and at times when the taxi slowed down we were looking thru peoples front doors. I only ever visited Abidjan on one occasion back in my Navy days, some six years ago. We arrived early on a bright blue sea and sky. We were whisked ashore in a motorised dug out canoe that did not feel the most safe. On arrival we were thrown into the throngs of a market selling just about every type of fruit and exotic vegetable that I could imagine. The colours were amazing between the market vendor’s clothes and their wares. We then walked for some half a mile and decide to then catch a taxi into town, as the heat was getting rather intense.
