AcapulcoNewest Review: ... turn your skin green, it is largely a peaceful place. Another reason people head to Acapulco? To see La Quebrada. These famous divers jump off a high cliff into fairly shallow water below 5 times per day, and are one of the city's star attractions. We went, of course, and it is truly spectacular. You can stand at the top for free but the view is no good - much better to pay your 35 pesos ... more |

So, in a nutshell, Mexico and Spain fought a war of Independence, and 198 years later, I moved to Mexico. Woo! And, for my first Mexican Independence day I decided to leave the big city behind and head to the beach. Acapulco is the nearest beach to Mexico City, so off we went. ~~~ Getting There ~~~ Some people would fly to Acapulco. It takes 45 mins from here, and is quite a civilised way to travel. Not us. We took the Autopista del Sol (Highway to the Sun) which should take 4 - 5 hours, but of course took us longer (think 6.5 hours) because of the long-weekend traffic. Mexico doesn't really do trains, but the busses are as comfy as busses can be. ... Read the complete review

when you think of Acapulco, the first thing that comes to your mind is fun, sun, drinking and clubbing. there might be some downfalls to that plan though if you decide to take on your club vibe at the FREE WORLDS nightclub located amongst all the happening nightclubs along the beaches of Acapulco. The bouncers there are friendly enough to escort you out if the owner has a problem with any of your relatives, then graciously 4 or 5 of them will single handedly beat the shiet out of you in the back alley (the bloodstains are a lovely contrast to the color of your shirt), rob you, dump you in a pool of water and then without extra charge, wait till your on your feet ... I first went to Acapulco when I was 3 years old and the place hasn't changed since. In fact, if you see my baby photos of Acapulco you can still recognize some of the beach trinket sellers! Acapulco was THE resort in the 60's and 70's - according to my parents it was incredibly glamorous, full of movie stars and rich people who had their homes up in the hills overlooking the bay or stayed in Las Brisas with their own pink Jeep. It was like a Pacific Riviera and there are still traces of that in the old movies that still show on TV that were set in Acapulco. Well, that's the only thing that's changed as Acapulco is a shadow of its former self. ... Read the complete review

Went in February 1989 to the Hyatt Regency with Hayes & Jarvis. Probably the best located hotel on the bay. Hotel was average considering the cost at the time and the staff were appalling. Waiters jangled money in their pockets when taking orders, tutted and muttered in Spanish. My sister is fluent and told us they were arguing amongst themselves about who was going to serve the "English anorexics"-we stopped tipping! Nightlife is the same as everywhere else and if you've heard one Mariachi band you've heard them all. Avoid tours they're a rip off. You can get to La Quebrada to see the cliff divers in a taxi which is ... Read the complete review

My Girlfriend and I visited Acapulco in November '99, just after the end of the rainy season - the best time to visit. At this time there were no packages available direct from the UK with the major tour operators, so we were the only English tourists there, surrounded by Canadian & U.S residents. Staying in the Sea Garden Apartments outside the main city was very peaceful, but expensive in taxi fares. Accomodation at the Sea Garden was immaculate - definitely 10/10 !!! The Locals are very friendly, and on a whole very honest, BUT, beware of some taxi drivers, and agree fares before getting in - also check they are insured !! Food is ... Read the complete review
