Advantages: Beatiful Paradise, Friendly Locals
Disadvantages: Busy in main Town
My Girlfriend and I visited Acapulco in November '99, just after the end of the rainy season - the best time to visit. At this time there were no packages available direct from the UK with the major tour operators, so we were the only English tourists there, surrounded by Canadian & U.S residents. Staying in the Sea Garden Apartments outside the main city was very peaceful, but expensive in taxi fares. Accomodation at the Sea Garden was immaculate - definitely 10/10 !!! The Locals are very friendly, and on a whole very honest, BUT, beware of some taxi drivers, and agree fares before getting in - also check they are insured !! Food is fairly expensive, and genuine Mexican is different to Tex-Mex, Chili Con Carne was never seen on any of the menus. The food is all quite mild & bland, spiced up only by the Salsa sauce served with everything. Where else could you see Dolphins Frolicking Yards off a deserted sandy beach, and wade out to be with them Free ?!? Summary: Sun, Sea, Sand, Dolphins, Seclusion, Relaxing, Value for money.

- 25/07/00 I have been to Acapulco many, many times (I am originally from Mexico) and I my opinion of it is that it is firmly stuck in the 70's, it is dirty, old-fashioned and boring. It is a bit like the Blackpool of Mexico (with much better beaches). On the other hand, it offers tourists from other countries a much better idea of the culture than, say, Cancun does.
I must say that the Steve's comments about the Mexican food made me laugh: Chili con carne is NOT mexican food - it is Tex mex and you can find the real stuff in Texas, not Mexico! |
