AgadirNewest Review: ... in amusement as they decided what was "Good!" and what was "No good!" Suitably attired, wearing two skirts but no tights, I set off for the beach. Hassan in tow, carrying my bag and grumbling about the walk. "We go taccksy!" "No, I want to see the town! We'll walk!" "Is not good walking!" It's all downhill, what's up with ... more |

Agadir is a city on the Atlantic in The South West of Morocco. I stayed there for a week a while ago and had a very unusual time there. I had been overworking and decided I needed a week's rest. Agadir ticked the boxes, warm, cheap, somewhere I'd never been before, it sounded interesting. I booked it late off the teletext and off I went! My travel agents in their wisdom, elected to put me in a seedy little hotel about a mile from the beach. I was a single female, non Arabic speaking and the only holidaymaker in there. The rest of the clientele seemed to be Moroccan business men. After the first morning of being harassed at the breakfast table five ... Read the complete review

I have been there twice for a winter sun holiday. The second time we took our 2 kids. We went in February and the temperature was between 20 and 25 degrees each day although that was through a mostly 50/50 cloud/sun ratio. The airport is fairly modern although not very big and about half an hour outside the town. There are a load of cabs waiting but you will be shepherded to the rank and then expected to tip the shepherd even though it's only just outside the terminal. The cabs come in 2 types - little, battered, orange hatchbacks or larger, more comfortable mercedes. The latter costs more and may be worth it on the half hour journey to town but certainly not ... With my wife being a teacher, and myself being involved on the periphery of education, we tend to be 'stuck' with school holidays, despite having no children to take with us. Before you ask, no, we don't want to borrow yours! One thing we DO try to do though, is go on holiday more than once a year. The crop so far this year has been 5 days in NY at New Year, and a few days in Bilbao at half-term. Now we've been to Morocco for a week. Here's what it was like. Firstly, we've never been there before, and to my shame, I had to look up Agadir on the map* - I knew where Morocco was, but it has an Atlantic AND a Mediterranean ... Read the complete review

I think Morocco is an acquired taste. I went to Agadir with my mum for a 2 week break (leaving from Glasgow) during the month of December. I chose to go then because I knew it would be a bit quieter. It was my second visit to Morocco, the first having been to the north in the early 80s with my identical twin sister. As my twin and I are both red heads that caused quite a stir among the locals who would constantly ask us if we'd dyed our hair with Henna. I had a bad experience on my first day down at the beach in Agadir with my mum when a really rude carpet seller just wouldn't take no for an answer. Luckilly for us a friendly local intervened. ... While Agadir is touted as a European resort it has an altogether different feel to it than other European resorts. Our overall impression of the week we spent there is not very good. We went in mid-march and the weather was glorious. Not a hint of rain, not a cloud in the sky. We stayed in Hotel Tagadirt, which was just about achieved its 2 star billing. Things started off badly. When we arrived at our room we found it was already inhabited. The next room we were offered was overun by insects. Eventually we were offered a family room which was fine. Our first day in Agadir had us a bit spooked. In the morning we were suckered into buying £20 worth of herbs by ... Read the complete review
