Albena is a beautiful place, but in summer, cheap it is not. I visited in April and it was cold and deserted, however, I have Bulgarian friends who told me more about the place, so I will combine their information with what I saw. Albena was created in 1969 as a beach resort and in summer is packed with many young people. Prices for literally everything tripled since 2000. Expect to pay not less than 10-15 Pounds per person for lunch and dinner can be more. The cheapest option is still to go with a package tour. There are not many from UK, while there are plenty from Russia and Germany. The beach is wide and 6 kilometres long and you can go in the sea for 100 ...

Albena is, without doubt, the most attractive of the Black Sea resorts. It may not be ‘blessed’ with a name like Golden Sands or Sunny Beach, but its wide 7km long clean sandy beach would suit either name. However, unlike the bland resorts to the south, Albena has a much friendlier and modern character. You should choose your hotel location with care. With over 200 steps up to hotels on the top road, such as the Avrora where we stayed, a degree of activeness may be needed. For the less active there is a frequent, very cheap road train that runs continuously up and down from early morning to late evening, or you could choose one of the many hotels ...
