Newest Review: ... over the boarder we stopped in a lay-by to take a picture of the huge Alberta sign and to have some much needed grub! The entrance to the park is about half an hours drive from the boarder .We paid our entrance fee of $12 (Canadian dollars), which is good for a day, and were given lots of useful information by the ranger. The drive from the park entrance took about another 20 minutes through wonderful mountain scenery. Our first impression of our hotel was that it was stunning! The Prince of Wales hotel is classed as a historic building and most of the original features have been retained. It is set up high above the lake and h... more

Alberta Canada is known as the rocky mountain state. It is home to some of the finest scenery in the world and has several national parks including Banff, Jasper, and Waterton. It is Waterton I want to write about as for me, it is one of my favourite places .I hope you enjoy the read and that if you are planning a visit it will be useful! In the summer of 2003 our family had the opportunity to spend 2 months touring the western United States. We had planned to start out trip in Tucson, Arizona and travel up as far as glacier national park in Montana. We visited Edmonton on an overnight stay, on our way to the Rockies. Four years before we had made the journey from Vancouver to Jasper on board the Canadian, the Art Deco styled legendary transcontinental train. The journey was an experience, and our private room which converted to a cosy bedroom for overnight sleeping was really exciting. But we commented that unless you were a real train enthusiast maybe spending 17 hours on a train when the flight to Edmonton is only a couple of hours may smack of travelling for travelling's sake, and that despite lovely views en route, the real spectacle is when you are in your destination. So we decided that if we did the ...  Read the complete review

Banff is a small town in the Rockies. Set amongst gorgeous settings it is a massively popular tourist destination, both in the winter when world class ski resorts are in the vicinity and in the summer which opens up a whole range of opportunities. I lived in Banff for six months in the gap year I had between leaving school and starting university and I had the most enjoyable period of my life there. It is simply stunningly beautiful. Mountains surround it, and there are many beautiful lakes nearby. In the winter there are the ski resorts of Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, and Mt. Norquay just a short bus ride away. The first two are absolutely superb and are ...  Read the complete review

As a Ski destination Jasper has a lot to offer. The small and friendly town site is nestled in a most beutiful part of the rockies, Within Jasper National park. There is a good choice of good quality hotels which can be very cheep if booked on various special offers in winter, which is there quiet season. Jasper Park Lodge is a very good hotel. part of the Canadian Pacific chain, and is worth a visit from non guests to partake in cross country sking, or ice skating on one of the two frozen yet groomed lakes. Marmot Basin is a 20 min bus trip away and is an ideal resort for a cautious intermediate skier. The slopes are very wide and empty, and there are ...  Read the complete review
