Advantages: Fairly cheap and affordable. Perfect for a short break!

Disadvantages: None that I can think of!

Lagos is the party town of the Algarves.
Lots of bars and restaurants open late and plenty of English speaking youngsters out for some fun in the sun!
A great place for a weekend away. Go, Easy-Jet and British Airways all fly into Faro and often have good deals on airfares. The flight time is about 2 hours. From Faro, Lagos is an easy bus or train journey of an hour or so. You can also easily rent a car but be warned that the Portuguese are not the safest drivers in the world!
A friendly and relaxed atmosphere greets you as well as great weather. A cool breeze usually blows in the afternoon and is extremely refreshing after battling with the blistering sun in an attempt to be nicely bronzed. There are two beaches in Lagos. A small beach near the old town wall can occasionally dish out some small but rough surf. The bigger beach can be reached by crossing the canal at the footbridge near the marina (a total walk to the beach edge of about 15 mins) or by catching the tiny ferry for 70 escudas (about 2 pence each way and cutting down the time to about 5 mins!)This is a beach that many ex-pats will be able to identify with. Golden sand and a nice little surf.
There is a great seafood bar/restaurant called Mullens (R. Candido dos Reis, 86)that has a good atmosphere and Irish staff with a strange sense of humour. Dinner for three with more seafood than you can poke a stick (including starters) at as well as some great local white wine cost us £12.00 GBP in total.
Comparisons: I have been to Ios and Santorini in the Greek Islands for a beach party holiday and I can honestly say that I prefer Lagos. Where IOS can attract groups of unsavouries, Lagos attracts people that are there to enjoy the party atmosphere and the great beaches without feeling any need to cause trouble or behave like idiots.
As well, the time of travel to Lagos compared to the 8 hour ferry rides in the Greek Islands make this holiday an enjoyable experinece and not a chore.
