For a start I have never been to Benidorm as I am not into package Holidays, and prefer the real deal. Alicante is situated on Mediterranean coast near the Castillian town of Elche, Santa Pola (where the Spanish go on holiday in summer) and about an hour’s drive from Valencia. The temperature is very good most of the year round. I went to Alicante for New Year and it rained for all of 5 minutes when I was there, the temperature was between 20 and 25 C during the day getting cooler at night. Shopping in Alicante is very good you have two very large Corte Ingles(Spanish department store) situated nearly opposite each other plus many other shops like Carrefour for grocery shopping. Also there are many good clothes shops like Massimo Dutti, Zara, Adolf Rodriguez, do not expect them to be fashionable but more elegant, stylish and sophisticated. Do not expect clothing to be cheap, as this is a richer part of Spain. Also down near the Marina you will find down one of the side streets a Sex Shop but beware the videos are dubbed over in Spanish ruining the whole affect, plus weird old guys going into the video booths.

So you want to go out in Alicante for nightlife, well its good place to be as Alicante has a very large student population which creates a mixture of people to meet. Most people hit the Tapas bars around 8pm onwards, at midnight they move on into town for drinks at the many bars. The bars are all close together, you will find them near the marina and are free to enter. You will find the drinks filled plentiful and cheap in comparison to England. You will find that you will be offered drugs in Alicante as this is the main port where most of the Cannabis is shipped from Morocco into Europe. Also as there are a lot of clubbers and students you will find a lot of the harder stuff being offered around in the toilets, be careful let them try it first to make sure its okay.

At around 6am most people move on to the Marina where most of the clu
bs are (remember in Spain they are called Discos as Clubs are Brothels), they play everything from cheesy latin dance music, to samba etc. Depending on the club you go to, you may find you get a ticket, in Spain you will pay for your drinks when you leave as depending on how many drinks you bought you may not have to buy the entrance fee so do not lose the ticket. Around 10am you will find the clubs getting quiet and people move to beech to chill out or party on. At the end of the night Churros with a cup of thick hot chocolate is the Spanish equivalent of a kebab.

During the day in a hung over state you may visit the museums or the Moorish Castle which is very beautiful when lit up at night. Eating in Spain is very good I recommend Bocadilla (like Subway) for fast food, they have really nice subs there. Or if your hungrier one of the many restaurants where you can get a 3 course meal and bottle of wine for around £4.

For a cheaper real break it is worth visiting Alicante to get away from the English for a week and adjust to a more relaxed lifestyle.

Interesting review. I think a fair few of the English 'clubs' may as well be brothels!
