Advantages: Warm all year round
Disadvantages: Return flight check in
Alicante has it all with some lovely beaches right in the city itself. This region is the Costa Blanca and has some of the highest average tempertures and is the warmest area in spain in the winter months. In recent years the region has had a great deal of European money spent the airport has changed for the better and now looks and has the facilities of an international airport. You will never get away from the crush of book in for the return flight because Alicante serves Benidorm and coaches drop off hundreds of passengers all at once thus glogging up the check in. Boat tips to the nearby island of Tarbica go from the harbour but frankly I would'nt bother again. It takes the best part of 1 hour and once there you're find it packed with just a couple of tourist shops. The city offers everything you'd expect with a good shopping area and hundreds of restaurants. Prices are alwys very reasonable in spain to eat out. It has many interesting buldings dominated by a huge fort on the hilltop which is used now as a police station. Go in fiesta time and you will see the streets all lit up with lights and fireworks and processions. There is a nightly market on the main pedestrian front or the main street up to the shops, these stalls sell the usual items found at any market aimed at the visitor like handcrafts, rings, necklaces to rubbish bought locally like cheap torches aand laser pointers.
