There are lots of very good restaurants in Alvor and some of the best we found were down by the harbour, where each restaurant had it's own barbeque where they would cook up your dinner in front of your eyes. Prices in the restaurants were no cheaper than at home, probably due to the euro! There were also plenty of bars - I think we counted 8 Irish pubs, as well as a few karaoke and English bars there were thankfully some Portuguese places! I have to receommend Superbock, what a fantastic beer, very tasty! Prices for beer were not bad, around three euro for a pint. It is definitely not a party town, ... more |

Alvor is a small town in the Algrave, Portugal. I have just returned from a ten day holiday that I spent with my wife. Now to put my review in context it may be useful to know the following information - I am thirty, my wife twenty seven and we were looking for a holiday that was relaxing and quiet, but not somewhere that was totally dead and had nothing to do. I have to admit that we both found Alvor to be exactly what we were looking for. Alvor is a great place to relax and chill out. I went to alvor in may just gone for a week and i was impressed. This little village is really nice and has lots of nice restaurants. We stayed in apartments near to the beach (which is beautiful). The beach is really nice to walk along and it's massive. The sand is soft and a golden colour, just how beaches should be. Most weekday mornings there's a little fishing market. It's situated just off the beach. You will see the huts and all the fishing cages. There's another little front with some restaurants and bars. These are nicely positioned to sit out by the water. Alvor, a little village, from the city of Portimão, located on Algarve/Portugal/Europe, this was a small fisherman village with a few houses and lots of small boats entering at the riverside of the village, now still there is some boats, but it because a turistic village, with a main road of bars were it was the fisherman houses , and the small population grown up more than twice, still there was been some sensible from the Chairman of Portimão (contraly to portimão city center) to not build big ugly towers, but smallhouses and some litle 3stage buildings, so when you look to the village you dont see an ungly ciment look.
