A great taste of the Amazon

Amarongachi is another place where i have had such a good time that it is only fair that I share my experiences and reccomend that anyone that wants a taste of the rainforest visit this amazing haven in the Amazon rainforest.

Amarongachi is located a few miles outside of the town of Tena. The organisers at Amarongachi will collect you from the bus station and take you to their office and cafe where they will give you a nice smoothie while you negotiate what activities you would like to do whilst in the rainforest.

Most people stay for three nights at a cost of $45 per day, this includes all meals accomodation and excursions into the forest. This is great value. We went on some great trips down the river including a tubing afternoon a visit to a local village and an animal sanctuary. The guides are local, knowledgeable and great fun. Our guide, on our request even took us on an evening walk to explore the nocturnal creepy crawlies.

The accomodation itself is basic, if you are used to basic backpacking accomodation, great. the facilities are actually very good, the rooms are basic, but clean, most are ensuite and there is running hot water for 24 hours a day. Just be careful not to leave towels and clothes on the floor, scorpions reside in the area. The food is great, but you get whatever you're given, forget a la carte. Meals are announced with a traditional local horn. The bar is great, even though they run out of beer most nights (though we did drink a lot) because they only get one crate of beer delievered every he day. The service at the beer is friendly and informal.

It is the location that makes this place, you raim should be to spend as little time in your room as possible. Your time should be spent in the hammock area with a beer, it is as amazing as it is in the picture; instant zen. I watched some great sunsets and even a brilliant tropical .

By the end of your stay here you will feel dirty, tired, natural, relaxed, welcomed and looked after. You will be on first name terms with many of the staff and will meet other friendly travelers who also having a great time. Visiting the Amazon is someting most people will do only once, the staff here seem aware of this and do anything they can to make it as pleasurable and memorable as possible. I would reccomend this to almost anyone. It is a real Amazon experience, therefore there will be spiders and other creatures in your room sometimes. Sadly some people on trip advisor have made complaints of such a nature and even took pictures of a scorpion. This is an action heavy experience, lots of walking and climbing is involved, but they will take issues such as claustrophobia and fear of heights into consideration.

This is a perfect way to taste the Amazon. Some may opt for further exploration of the Amazon, for others this will be more than enough and look forward to returning to the comforts a hotel without insects and a nice bath and room service. Overall, everyone's a winner

Thanks for reading, I hope this was useful, don't forget to rate :)
