Advantages: a cheap and cheerful city with plenty to do

Where better to spend a fun weekend than Amsterdam. It is a beautiful and vibrant city that offers a lot more than sex and drugs (although both are plentiful for those who have them in mind!)
One great way to explore the city is to hire your own personal pedal-boat. For me, this was one of the funniest incidents of my whole trip! A very different experience to taking a pedalo into the big blue sea, Amsterdam's canals have rules and regulations to follow, and navigating your way around is like being trapped in a maze! Make sure you take a map! With stop-off points along the way, you can jump out to explore, and then hop back in when you are ready to move on. We managed to float on the wrong side of the canal towards an on-coming barge, and the crowds of tourists who stood and watched us hopelessly pedal into the canal wall were very amused! It is a great workout, and when you recover, there are plenty of great bars to go and relax with a cold beer.
