Antibes

Description: Côte d'Azur, France. Antibes has the largest yacht marina (by total tonnage) on the Côte d'Azur, built in the 1960s on ... more
Antibes ... the site of a Roman harbor. There is still a local fishing industry, much diminished from its size a century ago. It was formerly a site of perfume distilling; the surrounding country once produced an abundance of flowers. Perfume distillation is still carried out on a commercial scale in nearby Grasse. The major attractions of Antibes are its history, climate, art, beaches and yachting. The sand beaches of Antibes are all manmade; the natural beaches are gravel (shingle in British English); in summer, these beaches are maintained using large tractors towing a device which scoops-up, sieves, spreads, and rakes the sand. Antibes' beaches east of Fort Carré (that is, going toward Nice) are still the original rough materials.

Visit Antibes at any time of year and you will soon realise that Antibes is about yachts, expensive yachts and very expensive yachts. A stroll around the port is a must ,to see the mega boats with heliocopters or sea planes you may have to walk to the outer harbour and slip past the guards. The next thing you will notice is that nearly all the crews of these yachts are english, they mostly live on board and spend the greater part of the year moored at Antibes, this makes for some lively action in the local bars throughout the year. The Old town is a must to visit with its narrow streets and varied restaurants. You will find great little specialist shops, one ...  Read the complete review

It has a nice, sandy beach, although one has to pay to gain entrance to many parts of the beach (paying customers usually get a chair and umbrella, with a waiter coming around every now and again). Sometimes, the equally gorgeous sunbathers like to lie on these giant rocks overlooking the Meditteranean, while others on the frequently topless beach like to cool off in the sky blue waters. It is the home to many conferences--I went to one at the Hotel Ambassadeur, while staying at the nearby (and ...  Read the complete review

Good price and good location None for me

Nice weather normally , lovely views Don't recommend visiting out of season. Many shops/restaurants close and weather does get bad.
