They were in hyper inflation, they had just been beaten black and blue by the UK and they knew the US had helped with logistics. But despite all of this they were still very friendly to me. I have visited and in fact lived in Argentina although only for three months. Argentina still has a strong draw for me as I find myself visiting about every three years. The people are as friendly as you will ever find anywhere in the world and the landscape is breath taking at time. My first experience was back in 1986 just after the little Falklands battle. Everywhere the Argentines were flying banners that read "las malvinas son argentinos" which roughly means the falklands are argentina's. Argentinia is a country with an identity problem. Wherever you go you will be reminded that Argentina is not like other South American nations, the average Argentinian seems to vew there country as an outpost of Europe that has somehow been towed away in the night and left there. This causes an interesting combination of nationalist posturing (that never seems quite dangerious) and a self hatred whenever they are forced to realise there true location. Nations that have something to prove oftain altinate between a desire to impress and a ...  Read the complete review

Crossing the lakes and mountain passes of the southern Andes, with a condor flying overhead, beats looking up at hang-gliders in the Alps. The Argentine Republic is the second largest country in South America, after Brazil. Somewhat triangular in shape, Argentina's apex is at the very south of the American continent, with Punta Dungeness the south-eastern extremity of the South American mainland. One of the best ways to travel around Argentina is by bus. The Buenos Aires bus station is on Av. Ramos Mejía 1680 near to Retiro Station. Long distance buses have toilets, air conditioning and coffee bar. If time is limited, you can ...  Read the complete review
