Asheville or Ashvegas as it is sometimes known as (don't worry, it's not full of casino's) is a vibrant City in Western North Carolina. I am by no means a local (living in England) but I have visited there many times during summers working at a nearby summer camp and I'd have to say it's one of my favourite places to be. It's certainly not on the tourist trail so if you're looking for tourist photo after tourist photo, apart from the massive Biltmore House, then Asheville may not be for you. In recent years Asheville, North Carolina has been voted in the top 10 of America’s most popular places to live. After our visit a few years ago I can see why. The city is surrounded by 2 mountain ranges, the Great Smokies and the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is certainly one of the prettiest American cities I have visited. Three scenic parkways pass through Asheville and we spent some time on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a really lovely road to drive along and there is plenty to stop and see en route (visitor centres, scenic lookouts, information boards etc) However because of speed restrictions and the narrow windy roads it does take ages to get anywhere. ...  Read the complete review
