Cebu:
... is the second largest city in the Philippines and the capital of the Visayas range of islands. Some lucky people actually fly into Cebu internationally, let me tell you why they are lucky. In comparison Manila is a terribly polluted and busy city with awful traffic. Manila is enormous and there is poverty everywhere, it is almost unbearable for first timers. After being in Manila, Cebu is a breath of fresh air,... Read the full review: Cebu is an excellent island, and the city is far nicer than Manila by mmayer99 |

Philippines ... time and are not usually pleasant to westerners. The BBQ food that is spit roasted is very good though, and in bigger cities there are a wide range of quality restaurants. I have mentioned the top destinations and they are all highly recommended, the beaches are as good as anywhere in the world in Boracay and Palawan. The travelling can be hard though as there are so many islands (over 7000) in the country. The Philippines is a great country to visit and is missed by many who go to Asia. The beaches are fantastic and the people easy to get along with. Many still think the country is at war or are scared of terrorists but it really is a very safe place to travel to.... Manila ... from your taxi window is alomost guaranteed, and when they knock at your window for some change, it isn t pleasant. It is a massive city and there are some good points, Filipinos love food and malls. They excel at both with some massive super malls and a wide variety of food to choose from. Hotels cost a bit more than elsewhere in Asia, and more than the rest of the Philippines. Taxi drivers can be a pain especially outside Makati so make sure you know the price if they refuse to use the meter. The heat and pollution from traffic is relentless so ita is best to book an air con room and just use taxis for transport. Crime is minimal against foreigners but you should... Cambodia ... is one of those side trips to consider from Thailand, after 2 visits to Thailand I decided to give it ago. This was based mostly on the fact that Angkor Wat has a great reputation for amazing old temples, and backed up by the fact that it is easy to get to and cheap. I started in Siem Riep to visit the temples and they were as expected, brilliant. There is a full day tour to do or longer tours, guides are very cheap, maybe $20 a day. The 1 day tour I did was packed with spectacular temples, monuments and the most amazing trees I ve seen. Next stop was Phnom Penh which is the capital and a nice city for such a poor country. There are some dirty areas, but also ... Read the full review: Intersting country with friendly people by mmayer99 |
