Advantages: Lots to do

Disadvantages: Hot and humid except in the Winter.

Dispite what reputation Bankok has, remember it is a city full of places to visit. You really feel that you are in the Far East when you visit. The people are wonderfully friendly and smile at you.

A few words of warning though. You are advised to haggle when paying for goods or taxis. When buying goods this can be important, especially in the market place, but do remember how many bart you are dealing with. Some things are so incredibly cheap (and sound more in bart), that you can waste a lot of time haggling over very little money.

As far as transportation is concerned. If you get in a Tuk Tuk and the driver asks for a rediculously low fare, but then asks you for permission to take you to a jewelery store or place where gems are sold. The chance are you will be left there when you come out. This is because he gets gasoline vouchers for taking you there. Worth much more than the fare he has agreed with you.

Having said that it is a fun place, shopping is excellent prices, food is very good value and can be to a very high standard. Visit Chinatown, again it is an experience and the food is excellent, as good as any other place in the Far East.

When you leave, be careful what weight you carry in your luggage. It does get weighed at the airport and the cost of going over is very high!
