BarcelonaNewest Review: ... that it isn't long before the creatures find a new home with a local family. *Barri Gòtic* Barcelona's gothic quarter is located just off the Ramblas and offers a more sedate and understated atmosphere. There are many places to visit, but the fun, for us, was getting lost in the rabbit warren of interconnecting narrow streets and then stumbling across a fantastic building or statue when you ... more |

Barcelona is a kaleidoscope of a city, with its rainbow of colour provided by a massive collision of architectural styles, its bustling streets and its mix of locals and tourists. It's unique in that it offers more than just things to see and do, as it also offers places to relax and get away from it all - an unusual thing in a city that millions of visitors each year. Barcelona is the capital of the province of Catalunya, a region that has maintained its independence despite repeated pressure to remove it over the years. I know Barcelona extremely well, because 3 years ago I was covering Spain and Portugal in the firm where I work and used to be in Spain every second or third week. Although most of our clients are based in Madrid, I always made sure that I was visiting clients in Barcelona at the end of the week, and then stayed there on my own account for the weekend. Barcelona is a city of roughly half a million people, it is a large port and is surrounded by hills, when you land with Iberia, Ba, or Easyjet at the airport of El Prats you have a very good overview of the city. I have been to Barcelona several times and always enjoyed the variety. Our last visit to Barcelona was during the summer and we stayed close to the centre. We went to Gaudi's park, it was a fabulous experience. To stand were hundreds of years of people had stood and to see pieces of there history cemented into the seating was amazing. The colours were vibrant and looked liked they had not long been done. The rest of the park was inspirational. From the park we experienced Las Ramblas this is an experience not to be missed, we saw mimes and performers all down the promenade. The atmosphere was great like nothing we have ever experienced before, would recommend a ... Read the complete review

It's rare you can say this and actually mean it, but this is a city with something for everyone. There is glorious architecture aplenty, with Gaudi buildings throughout the city and the amazing gothic quarter housing the city's cathedral and of course Barcelona's favourite attraction the Temple de la Sagrada Familia. A church with design work by Gaudi which is slowly being built through donation money. Like any large city, there is the usual McDonalds and Burger King but also many lovely tapas bars. For the best food, I would recommend heading down La Rambla to La Boqueria-a large undercover food market. There are plenty of places to eat inside and some lovely ... Read the complete review
