Great laid back place (Barcelona)
Member Name: Daisybelle
Advantages: Laid back and friendly Disadvantages: If you're linguistically challenged there aren't many English speaking locals
My memories of Barcelona are those of a really pleasant place to laze around in the summer. I’m not really interested in culture, so the lively, but laid back Las Ramblas really hit the spot with me. Lots of bijou, friendly bars all over the place, usually with computerised lotto machines (This was in 1990, before everywhere was on the net) and regular draws to fulfil the Spanish lotto obsession. There are plenty of good restaurants down on the seafront, the fresh fish dishes well worth trying (Watch your dinner swimming round in a tank before you eat it!) The Spaniards I met were all friendly, and didn’t try to rip me off. Spent quite a few nights in the bars of Las Ramblas watching the prostitutes trying to pick up punters, and exchanging war stories. Good place to mingle with travellers from all over Europe and slob about. Having spoken to other people who’d been mugged and hassled by the police (Hassled physically) while sleeping in parks, paying for a bed seemed worth the money. I stayed in an inexpensive pension and would recommend this. I was looked after well by two elderly ladies for a couple of pounds a night.. Excellent place to chill. Summary: |
