Nothing spectacular but fairly nice (Bari)

Advantages: Pleasant centre and beach

Disadvantages: Nothing out of this world

When I visited Bari, I was really on a tight budget and wasn't even supposed to be in Italy at all at the time, had I budgeted for a trip to Italy then I imagine I would have indulged in what Bari had to offer, which of course being Italy was lots of fine food! For a relatively small city, there seemed to be a huge range of dining options and some of the food on show smelt and looked absolutely mouth-watering.

I was in Bari to board a boat to Greece but had a few hours to kill and decided to have a wander around, for a middle sized city I was quite impressed by the beach, the sand seemed clean and inviting but unfortunately it was a little late in the year to go swimming!

Romanesque architecture makes up most of the interesting buildings in the centre and whilst there's nothing that stands out there's a whole range of typically beautiful Italian churches and walking around the streets and squares is as enjoyable as in any other accomodating Italian town.

It seemed to me that I met as many Albanians as Italians in Bari and it was actually thanks to the immigrants that I succesfully found the port, take bus 20 / (there really is a forward slash after the number) from the bus station next which is adjacent to the train station.

Summary: Worth a few hours look around if waiting for a boat
