It is impossible for me to be totally unbiased here as I was born in Bayonne and like every Basque person, I am proud of my origins and always enjoy going back there for holidays as some of my family are still there. Handy, isn't it? But I would still like to write a review on Bayonne if that's ok with you ;o) First of all, I'd like to explain that even though the press often mentions "terrorists" with the word "Basque", only a tiny minority of people is involved. The Basque Country has 3 provinces in France and 4 in Spain and Bayonne has only ever suffered material damage unlike Spain. So rest assured, you'll be safe there. ... Read the complete review

From what I’ve seen, this is my favourite part of France. The Basque Country is basically the southwest region of France and over the invisible border to the Northern region of Spain. Bayonne is the main city on the French side and what a beautiful old city. Very laid back and pleasant to explore with loads of pedestrian only cobblestone streets lined with interesting shops and cafes. Biarritz, which is more well known as the Riviera of the 50's is just down the road a few KM. The prices here are surprisingly low compared to other places I’ve been in France such as the Riviera.
