Combine the physical beauty of hawaii or fiji, the island hospitality and friendliness of the bahamas or jamaica, and the super-inexpensive prices of india and thailand, and you arrive at Belize.

Most widely known as a scuba diving and active sports destination, Belize is a country where you can lounge on pristine beaches, hike through lush rain forests and visit ancient ruins.

The barrier coral reef off the coast of Belize is the second largest in the world after Australia's Great Barrier reef. Also, Belize is home to 3 of the 4 atolls in all of the western hemisphere - so you don't have to travel to the middle of the pacific to see a lush tropical atoll.

The one continual problem, which seems to be slowly getting better, is the difficulty in getting to Belize. Right now several airlines fly to Belize daily, most of which travel via Miami, Houston or New Orleans. But every few months, additional flights are added and the ease of travel is increased.

Bottom line - get to Belize before it is built up like the Bahamas or Jamaica, because the hundreds of barrier islands and inland towns are pristine and beautiful.
