Advantages: none apart from this warning will stop people getting cheated/conned
Disadvantages: con artists getting away with it, people getting cheated out of their money, monkeys not being looked after
I am writing this opinion to inform everyone of con artists on the streets of Benidorm!!!! I know about this as i saw what happened to a few people whilst on holiday over there!!! Please read this opinion so you can make 100% sure you are not conned!!!! Whilst on holiday, i walked down the streets of Benidorm. I happened to see a group of people gathered around a table so i went to investigate!!! I stood behind the people watching and saw what was going on. There was a man standing next to a table. On the table were 3 halves of potatoes with a red pea under one of them. They con people by doing bets with people who stand around and the person who plays guesses which halve of the potato the pea is under. Easy if you keep an eye on the halve with the pea under isnt it??? Except the people who run it con you! They move the pea into the potato halve next to you very quickly so people who play dont realise!I know this is how it works as my bf has seen it on TV before! They also have people on in it. I saw this same lady (who posed as a member of the public) standing watching what was going on at every place. She would have a go and of course get it right, which would persuade more people to have a go!!! I saw in horror, many inoocent people lose their money at those creeps expense!!!! I felt so sorry for the people who were conned! You also have to be careful if you go anywhere near those tables and have loose notes in your hand. There was this one lady (she was english and was quite old), she was holding about 100 euros in her hand and the man on the table snatched it out of her hand and the lady who was in on it told the lady which one to pick and so when the lady picked it it was wrong. I couldnt believe what happened next!!! The man on the table sped off extremely fast with his helpers leaving the poor lady there looking sad and saying 'he's taken all my money'. They dont just ask people if they
want to play - they also force people to play by sticking money in their hand to bet!!! I just thought i had better let everyone know as i dont want the same thing to happen to anyone else, though its bound to happen if someone is easily taken in!!!! Please please tell everyone you know that if they go to Benidorm - not to go anywhere near these creeps!!!! Benidorm is quite a nice holiday resort but is not nice at all when you get incidents like this!!!! There's also some other people you have to watch out for - the people around the town (mostly on the beach front) holding baby monkeys in socks!!! You have to pay them to film the monkey or take a photo of it!!! You wouldn't want to do that if you know this! They pull the monkeys teeth out and their claws out and dont feed it properly!!! All these con artists need reporting - but who would listen - besides we have no proof of who they are!!!! But i just hope that these warnings have some affect on someone in the world! If it means the cons have less people to cheat then this has done some good!!!!I hope this helps as many people as possible - NO ONE deserves to be cheated!

- 24/07/02 Oh, I disagree with you wholeheartedly! EVERYONE DESERVES TO BE CHEATED who's so silly as to take part in these games. How can someone who's not a complete idiot believe they'll win hundreds of Euros/pounds from strangers in the streets?! Why did the old lady wave around her money for everyone to see? Don't people watch TV or read newspapers? How silly can people get, I ask you? We have these con artists in Germany, too, especially in Berlin, they are mostly from Albania. (The first I saw were Italians in Italy, though.) On the main avenue in Berlin there are posters on shop windows every 50 metres put up by the police with detailed warnings; when you see people handing over their money nevertheless, you get the feeling they WANT to be cheated. The trick is like this: the person in the audience who belongs to the gang wins several times, then someone from the audience thinks they can win, too. Often they do once or twice and put more and more money in because they become greedy. Then they don't win anymore because whatever is under the potato (or whatever is used) isn't anywhere any more, it has disappeared in the hands of the trickster. So you can point to whatever potato you like, it's always the wrong one. Cheers, Malu |
