Bodrum City Tour/Shopping Tour - Bodrum Gold Centre

I visited the Bodrum area in July of this year. One of the many trips offered through the hotels in the Bodrum area including Turgutries, Yalikavak and Gumusluk is a tour of Bodrum - this may be advertised as a city tour or a shopping tour This tour may include a visit to the Bodrum Gold Centre. Beware!

The following was my own fault for impulse buying but thought it worthwhile to highlight this in the hope that others don't make the same mistake. Ensure you know the value of the article and, what you can purchase it for elsewhere, before buying it from the Bodrum Gold Centre. The reductions sound very attractive, as well as no tax. My experience cost me over £100 due to the purchase being vastly over priced.

The Bodrum Gold Centre appears a very credible and professional business selling gold and jewellery, which I guess, can cost thousands but watch out for those smaller items such as the one which I purchased. As I say, my own fault. The salesmen latch on to you as soon as you have had an introduction talk. My experience is as follows: -

I was keen to buy a reputable watch and purchased one having been taken in by the very sleek surroundings. I paid 669.76 Turkish Lire using my debit card. With the exchange rate being set at 2.30 to the GB pound this watch cost me £290.

I was clearly of the opinion, formed from the assurances of the salesman that:-
* The price was an excellent discount price
* This would be tax free
* The watch was a new model

I have discovered that this watch was massively overpriced proportionately to what it can be purchased for elsewhere. The salesman - god bless his commission and my cash - in my opinion represented this as quite a bargain/reduced price. I have paid about £130 MORE for this watch than what I can buy it for which is £165 through the internetnet. In addition I believe it to be an older model - no big deal here but verbally sold as a new model. Probably no one else as daft as me out there but watch the Bodrum Gold Centre anyway - I would certainly not give it the time or money next visit!

Summary: highly disappointing. Paid £290 for watch which can be bought on net for £165- Rip off
