Advantages: Cheap, plenty to do

Disadvantages: No beach

I went to Bodrum in 1995 with 2 friends for a girls holiday, and I have to say we loved every minute of it!

Bodrum is near Kos, the Greek island.

The scenery in the area surrounding Bodrum is beautiful and there are a lot of areas still untouched by tourism. The locals are hospitable, and generous to all visitors. I loved the fact that you could have a sun filled beach holiday, while still having the ability to experience a new culture.

Our accomodation was basic but clean and after all we hardly spent anytime there, but we had en suite bathroom and a small kitchenette which was more than enough.

We did pay a visit to the castle of St Peter in Bodrum, and we really enjoyed our day out there and I know that if I returned to Bodrum again I would spend another day there as there was a lot to see.

The nightlife was just what we wanted, not too quiet but not wild like Ibiza. Saying that we were never in bed before 3am, and most of the bars were full every night and had great atmospheres.

One downside was that there was not actually a beach that you could speak of, but we were lucky enough to have a small pool, however if you got more than 3 people in here it felt a bit crowded. A few people in our apartments went a Gumbet a couple of times as there was a nice beach there.

We also visited the bazaar, which was really busy and the streets were very narrow so it was hot and crowded with plenty of pushing and shoving, but it was fun. Leather and jewellery seemed to be the best buys when we were there. We haggled and got some really good bargains.

The food is gorgeous but also cheap, and the fish was the best we have ever tasted. An of course a trip to Turkey wothour tasting Raki would not be complete, so we were paying around £4.50-£6 for a 3 course meal including drinks.

Take a £10 note for when you arrive as you need an entrance visa.

Bodrum is nice, nothing extraordinary but you wil
l enjoy it nonetheless.

We went to Kos last year and saw Bodrum across the straights and wondered what it was like. You can get day trips across but because of the ongoing problems between the Greeks and the Turks we decided not to.
