Advantages: cheap shopping, lots of places to eat and rdink
Disadvantages: pestered when shopping
I went to Bodrum for a week with my mum, so just us girlys and found it is a place you love some night and hate on other nights! We went during the summer holidays so it was pretty busy with plenty of tourist around. We booked for two people in a 3* hotel for £350 each including breakfast and airport transfers.
I found Bodrum centre easy to walk around, althoguh we did get pestered alot with comments like "oo pretty ladies, good discount"! we just smiled and kept walking which seemed to do the trick. I found this is normaly for all of Turkey and is just a bit of harmless fun trying to entrance you into their restaurant, shop or trip centre. I found all the turkish people very friendly and helpful throughout my trip!
A trip to the market is a must for plenty of bargins and a shopping trip you wont forget in a hurry! here again you were often pestered bu simply walk away if your not interested and they normally start to pester some one else! This is hard work but the shopping is so cheap its a wonder they make any profet, hense the need to pestering people for custom! There were lots and lots of 'fakes' like nike and Radley, i find they were all ok quality although be careful with named tops as somethimes they shrink quickly! Also there is a lot of spices and fruit teas available for sale, these are loveley and i stocked yp for myself as well as for gifts.
When shopping make your you bargin for the price, normaly you pay about 60% of the displayed price, this is part fo the fun so enjoy standing you ground and saying its too expensive!
There are also plenty of tours and trip cheaply available to book whilst in Bodrum. We booked a boat trip for about £15 whilst there with a local company and had the most amazing day! This included a trip to some great areas for snorkling as well as a lovely BBQ.
Another trip we did was a couple of hours at the 'baths'. This was a unique experience although a little intimedating as it was in a back street and there were only us two girls. i'd recommend booking these with another person and not alone! usualy hotels have one within the hotel, a little more expensive, but with hindsight i would have paid to feel safer lol!
There are plenty of trip which are best booked when you arrive as they are cheaper!
We spent alot of our time at the beach in our hotel which was very peaceful and clean, with lots of fish swimming about! The weather was wonderful and we had great fun topping up our tans!
There was a huge range of restaurants and cafes to choose from and we ate some where different nearly every night, sampling a wide range of foods, from traditional Turkish to itallian and greek! all yummy and cheaper than the restaurant in the hotle.
The only downside was the rubbish airport, where everything is realy expensive and through the customs shops they people try to tell you that you are allowed twice as many cigs/alcohol than you are actually allowed - very sneaky!
Summary: a great holiday but a bit hard work at times
