Braga is the most amazing city i have ever visited. The historic center is very beautiful, with amazing religious and civil buildings, the streets are filled with live and great shops. Because of the excessive opening of new malls in the vicinity, some portuguese cities have a lot of problems with abandonement and decay in the historic downtowns, thankfully that didn't happen in Braga, so the historic center has a lot of people and a great variety of stores, a few megastores like Zara, H&M and department stores, hundreads of other stores from local international and international groups, restaurants from the tipical, cheap "tascas", to ... I have the honour of spending a lot of time per year in this Portuguese city and I must say it's an amazing place, either to live or to visit. Here is a more detailed description of the place. Monuments Being the religious capital of Portugal, you can imagine that the place is full of churches and the like. In centre, and oldest part of the city you will find a huge amount of this religious buildings, from small shrines to huge temples. I've just come back from the World Karting Championships in Braga, which is a city around 30 miles from Porto and is the religious capital of the country. It's a big place, and most of it is either charmless apartment blocks and building sites. However, the old centre of the city is amazing with it's mixture of churches, municipal buildings, and modern shops and arcitectural features. It's a shame the route from the new section to the old is not well signed but we found it in the end! Road signs in Portugal look the same as the ones in the UK but they don't seem to have the ones for tourist attractions, typical ignorant Brit that I am! ... Read the complete review
