Well being Brazilian i am going to comment about something that i know deeply!
Its not because i am from there but its such a beautiful country that like any other has its issues but overall its an amazing country.
Brazil has been discovered by Pedro Alvares Cabral in 1500. Being colonized by the Portuguese brought us a lot of influences from Europe. Before the Portuguese were there , the Dutch have been there also and left their culture in the north of Brazil.
Brazil has a vast mix of races because the country have been receiving a lot of different nationalities since 1860, today Brazil is the biggest Japanese Comunity outside Japan, also it has a lot of Italians, Spanish and Portuguese of course.I cannot fail to mention as well the slavery market that it was pretty big on the country resulting in a big black community that we are so proud of. They call the country a melting pot, where all the nationalities live in harmony!
The south of the country has a lot of german descent including the October Fest, its the same as in Germany, the Beer Fest and it happens at the same time!
Sao Paulo State is considered the financial heart of the country a lot of people compare Sao Paulo the city to New York, there were all the most important museums and art galleries and where the nightlife is the most exciting in the country!
Rio de Janeiro is compared to Los Angeles where everybody goes to the beach all the time and where they cultivate their self image to the extreme. A good example is that if you are in Copabana beach walking around all you will see is those gorgeous bodies that you would only see on TV!
The north east of Brazil is the Paradise part of the country! Porto Seguro is where Pedro Alvares Cabral landed when he arrived from Portugal and now it became of of the most visited places in the north east, with white sand beaches , turquoise sea and imperial palm trees!
In the North of Brazil there is Fortaleza that is one of the most popular destinations for Brazilians and foreigners! Its charm is that the city is surrounded by white sand dunes that you can ride with a little car that ynu can hire there and they take you in the dunes for about 4 hours and the joy you will have is umbelievable!
And last but not least the Amazon rain forest! The " lungs" of the earth! Where we can find one the biggest biodiversity of animals, plants and insects in the world!
There is a book that i recommend to all of my friends its called " Brazil, Life, Blood and Soul" written by John Malathronas, he is a British author and has a fantastic view of Brazil's nightlife, culture and tourism. You can get the book at Amazon for £ 6.99.
Also flights to Brazil , if you book some time before you go you can get them for £450 plus VAT return, best Airlines are TAM Brazilian Airlines and British Airways!
Brazil is once in a life time experience that everybody should give it a go!
