Argentina's capital conjures up romantic notions borne out of its reputation as the 'Paris of the South'. Sultry evenings spent in a grand ballroom filled with the impeccably dressed engaged in intricate tango moves while champagne flows Amazon like. The echoes of Evita's vocals drift over the city's loud speakers as you make your way home at sunrise at the beginning of another perfect day. With the Peso's current troubles there has never been a cheaper time to visit Argentina. Up to early 2002 Argentina was scarcely on the backpackers map and while media coverage of the countries troubles is still keeping some away locals ... Read the complete review

I was fortunate to spend a total of 90 days in Buenos Aires between September 1998 and September 1999, in five separate business trips. I have now visited quite a number of large cities throughout the world, on both business and pleasure, and have not necessarily enjoyed the experience, but Buenos Aires was really 'something else'. The City: Marvellous architecture, rather French in style, wide boulevards, plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars/’whiskerias’, whores on many street corners, clip joints, Tango dancers and Tango groups. ‘Vibrant’ is the correct word to describe it - much livelier than London, Edinburgh (!), ... If travelling within South America or if you need to visit Argentina, then a stop in Buenos Aires should definitely be on your itinerary. This vibrant city has the look and feel of a Spanish city though retains its sense of South American location. Culturally and socially, the city embraces all walks of life. From the hard-headed business district and its Hotels such as the obligatory Inter Continental with (frequently Texan oil tycoons) to the bustle of the Boca, Buenos Aires caters for all. The architecture of the Recoleta area as one would expect from this opulent area is fantastic. The layout of the buildings and the parks planned to perfection. ... Read the complete review

If you fly into Buenos Aries and then take a taxi to your hotel you will probably only see the lighter side of the city, But if you want a more adventurous time you should visit the area's just outside the docklands where you will find all walks of life from shanty town residents to high fliers "slumming it" some of the bars are wild and not too expensive. The further into the city you go the more culture becomes the attraction the architecture is both breathtaking and beautiful, the people in the main are friendly but outward displays of opulence are discouraged as in all major cities carrying large signs that say "Hey I'm a tourist please mug ... Buenos Aires is the most vibrant and enthusiastic city I have ever been to. It seems that there is always something happening, from the markets on quiet Sunday afternoon, to the outrageous pertying that you can find going on every night. Compared to other South American cities it is very expensive, and even rivals London when going outdrinking at night, but this should not put you off going to the city that has been labelles the 'Paris of South America'. Small wonder too, when you first see the beautiful architecture and wonderful colours that make Buenos Aires, for me, one of the most beautiful and exciting cities around. Go there, and I dare you to leave by ... Read the complete review
