BulgariaNewest Review: ... used to be a school for boys. It represents one of the most important architectural monuments from the time of the Bulgarian revival. The museum has existed for 100 years and inside monumets depict a diversity of crafts that flourished in the town. Here you can go back in time and pretend you are living the history of Karlovo. The Town Itself The focal point of the town is the central ... more |

Last year we decided that we wanted to buy a house in Bulgaria although at the time we didn't know very much about the country. We had spent hours looking at properties on different websites and we couldn't believe some of the prices. You could buy a 3 bedroomed house for £5,000. Yes it was true last year but I doubt very much if it is now.To cut a long story short we had chosen lots of properties in the area around Karlovo. How did we get there?. We went into the travel agents and asked about flights. The young girl behind the desk said, 'Where's that?, I've never heard of it.' I thought, 'My God, it isn't that obscure, is it?'. Obviously not many people ... Read the complete review

There’s a song that features on the soundtrack of many of my favourite films that goes: “No matter where we go, London, Paris, Rome, It feels like Anywhere, USA” It’s never something I really understood, since to me those three capitals are all very different from each other, and to anywhere in the USA that I’ve been, but I figured it was written by someone who’d never actually left the States, and who based their assumptions on the Hollywood version of Europe that comes across in films. But, then I went to Bulgaria, and a week on my overriding thought is that Golden Sands could have been anywhere, really, or at least any package holiday ... Read the complete review

Bulgaria; land of errant waiters, too much cucumber, and an awfully over-developed holiday coast. What on earth would attract the likes of theed and his mother? Well, the need to tick it off, as looking east it was about the nearest large country they hadn't been to. More importantly, the opportunity to see a lot more of the country, its sites and people etc, than those who go on bucket trips to Golden Sands do. So please forgive theed for overburdening the site with ops about Bulgaria, and bear in mind he's only writing so much about it because he liked it. As regards his recent op on Sofia, it is hoped it's still fresh in the reader's memory, as ... Read the complete review

It was a typical British Summertime a couple of years back, well to be more precise, a typical Scottish Summertime - rain, and plenty of it. As June faded fast and July approached, with seemingly no end to the miserable weather, I started to regret the mid-winter decision to buy a new car and get a new kitchen fitted. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time, after all Summer was a long way away and we didn't REALLY need a foreign holiday that year - did we? As July approached I began to realise that although the car was excellent, and the kitchen was a vast improvement on the previous shambles, I would gladly have given both up for that fortnight in the sun that ... I would go there tomorrow if I could!. Most people would not choose Bulgaria as one of their holiday destinations but this is top of my list!. I stayed in a resort called Sandy Bays (original I know!). It is on the East side of Bulgaria and has 4 miles of beautiful beaches. It is not expensive either when I went a year ago, it was £200 Half board for a week. There is also alot to do I went to a concert, there are plenty of bars and disco's, also most restaurants are cheap. I will tell you one thing to look out for though, dodgy men!, as with most holiday resorts crime goes with the territory, so keep hold of your handbag!!. ... Read the complete review
