CalaisNewest Review: ... at night,so i cudent see much, so i waited untill the next day to see what it is like. Wow! its such a lovely cute little town. It has everything you need. Its into two little parts, you have the 1st bit that you enter into from the port, full of little bars and resturants and a sunday market on the main square right by teh belzur hotel. The 2nd time i went there was even a live concert going on and it packed full of people signing along to a french band. You then come across a lovely big park on both sides of the roads which such lovely flower beds and really looked after! You carry on and see a massive church and bell tower, its beautiful... more |

I remember my boyfriend wanting to go on a mini trip to calais, i was thinking why the?? i said its just a port and people go there to buy cheap food and booze. But it sounded like a good road trip so i was up for it.Ive heard so much bad stuff about this place on the tv etc. People trying to get to uk , hiding in lorries etc,so i wasent expeting much. Up until this time last year, I looked upon Calais as merely being the "doorway to Europe". Nothing in itself other than a lot of industrial areas, on some very flat land, with a lot of cheap alcohol joints, and some boats. Basically I thought it was a dump. I could've been forgiven for thinking so too... as the horrible parts, and the cash-n-carry's are all people see... in either the route to the beer, or the route to somewhere more southern. Because of this, I was suprised when a friend of mine suggested that we spend a weekend in calais. The thoughts illustrated above flashed through my mind... but no.
