Brief History

California, which takes up a good portion of the American west coast, used to be one of Mexico's states. America wanted to expand, and waged war with Mexico. After marching into Mexico City, and taking the capital, The war was over, and the Mexicans were soundly defeated. Mexico lost half of it's land to the U.S, including the Mexican states of Texas, California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. This explains why more than half of California's cities still have Spanish names. Alot of street names also are in Spanish.
In southern California, in cities like San Juan Capistrano, you can still find old Spanish missions that are still used by monks today.

California Today

Today California, also known as the Golden State, is the most modern and developed state of the U.S, with the highest standard of living.
Southern California(Where I live), is by far the most developed part of California, with some of the best weather in the world.
In the center it's a little more hot. And in Northern California it's a bit cooler.
California is mostly desert, with one of the hottest places in the world being Death Valley, which is located in South Eastern California. Most of the desert of California is alot less extreme.
You can find some greener areas like Yosimitie in Central California, and up in the mountains. California becomes greener up north, as it starts to blend into Oregon.
Southern California is popular for it's beaches, and it's surfer stereo-type. Southern California is also home to a ton of theme parks, which are some of the world's best.

People

California along with New York, are the melting pots of America. You can find all kinds of ethnic groups in California. Whites are a minority that make up around 40% of the 30 million people, with 60% mostly Mexicans, Koreans, Vietnamese, African Ameri
cans, Chinese, and Indians. Mexicans and other Latinos almost make-up the majority of Californias population, with Spanish being spoken a great deal. There are more Mexicans in California than in any American state. Many Mexicans come to California because there is more oppurtunity here than in any other state. To know Spanish in California is helpful because chances are, if you work in California, you will be working with Mexicans. The Latino population is growing at an alarming rate in California.

Food

The food in California is as international as the population. You can find every kind of food in the world, with foods like Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, thai, Japanese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Indian, and any other food you can imagine. Mexican is more common in California, than anywhere else.
If you like Mexican food than I recomend Del Taco, which can be found nowhere else in the world but Southern California.

Cities Of Interest

Los Angelas: L.A airport is most likely going to be your point of enrty into California.
L.A is the second largest city in America after New York, and one of the most etnically diverse. Mexicans and African Americans make up a majority of L.A's people. You will find alot to do in L.A, with the L.A Zoo, and some good museums. You can see where many movies are made in Holywood, where you can have fun at the Universal Studios Theme Park. L.A is also is one of the more dangerous cities in America, with gang warfare in some areas.

Anehiem: Famous for Disney Land, and the inferior California Adventure. Anehiem also as some smaller attractions downtown, with places like the Wax Museum, Ripply's Believe it or Not Museum, Midevil Times, and Wild Bills.

Santa Anna: Santa Anna has the largest Spanish speaking population, compared to any city in America. 94% of the population is Mexican, with many of the billboards and signs in Spanish. Being i
n Santa Anna is almost like being in Mexico, and it would help to know a little Spanish if you want to live there. You can find all kinds of Mexican food here.

Westminister: You will find mostly Vietnamese here. There is a section of Westminister called little Saigon, which is a haven for the South Vietnamese who fled their country, after their country fell to the North Vietnamese. You will see alot of old South Viatnam flags flying next to American flags here. Statues of Budda are also common, and most of the signs and billboards are in Vietnamese. There is plenty of Vietnamese food also.

Garden Grove: This is a Korean city, with plenty of Koren food, Buddas, and Korean Billboards.

San Diago: Southern most city of California.
San Diago is popular for it's beach life, San Diago Zoo, and Wild Animal Park which I reccomend.

Sacraminto: The states capital

San Fransisco: A big city Known for it's Golden Gate Bridge, China Town, street trollys, and homosexuals.

Conclusion

As you can see, Calfornia is a diverse state, with no one culture. You will find everything in California.

An excellent and so informative op. I didn't know until now that that so many states had once belonged to Mexico. I enjoyed the read.
