Canary IslandsNewest Review: ... Canaries - much cheaper than you'd pay at home. ~~ FOOD & DRINK ~~ The food on all the Canary Islands is cheap and plentiful; cooking is simple but tasty. It's not unusual to be presented with an enormous heavy book like menu with choices listed in 9 or 10 languages. This often makes amusing reading as some the translations are rather colloquial. And how is it the waiters always know ... more |

Think of the Canary Islands, and what do they say to you? English breakfasts served all day, large groups of sunburnt English chavs wearing too little and drinking too much, timeshare touts and mass tourism? And yes, it's true, far too many of the larger resorts on the Canary Islands are buried under a mass of towering hotel blocks, KFC signs and loud flashing neon lighting. However, it's not all bad. What you do have is almost year round sunshine located only 4 hours away from cold and draughty Blighty. Large swathes of the Canary Islands remain charming and well worth a visit. My first visit to the Canary Islands was back in 1981, and since then I have visited all ... Read the complete review

After renewing our acquaintance with Tenerife by visiting Adeje at Easter time last year, we had been looking for another holiday for the summer and decided to use TAG (Tourist Advisory Group – see Timeshare) for another holiday. Lo and behold because of the lateness in enquiring all they had left were places on Tenerife. So off we went, this time to Playa Las Americas. If you have never been to this part of the island then you have not missed much, personally speaking I would tear it down and start again. However not everything is as bad as the area around Vericonas. We were staying at the Palm Beach Club which is a timeshare property but you can get in through ... Read the complete review

Playa del Ingles - Gran Canaria - is one of my most favourite places for a holiday. I have now been three times and find that I can relax there by day and indulge myself by night. The beach stretches for miles - from the resort out to the dunes of Maspalomas and beyond. All of the hotels and apartments that I have stayed in have been more than adequate. Lets face it with so much stuff going on outside your hotel, you dont need where you stay to special - just somewhere clean and comforatable to sleep and wake up in. As far as eating is concerned there are plenty of Restaurants to choose from, serving anything from tradiotionsl fayre like Steak, Chicken, Fish to ... Read the complete review

Lanzarote is one of the lesser known Canary Islands, but it does have a good night-life if you stay in the main resorts. There are plenty of other attractions on the Island, such as Timanfaya (the volcano) which is dormant, meaning it could errupt at any time - but don't worry, it has'nt done for about 100 years. There are vinyards all over the Island, a good idea to visit if you want some cheap booze! The main drawback with the resort is that it is windy! At least it was for the whole time I was there, and other people I know say the same thing. If you want a break off peak, it is worth a visit though as despite the wind it ...
