Chatham has some excellent seafood restaurants,most of them family owned and value for money. The larger hotels are situated on the outskirts of the town, but we chose to stay in a B&B called The Moorings which I can highly recommend. The house had previously belonged to a sea captain and was full of memorabilia. The homemade buffet breakfast was most impressive and the owners very friendly and helpful. ... more |

Most trips to New England include a visit to the Cape Cod area. During our 3 week 'tour' we chose to stay in a place called Chatham, as it is centrally situated on the elbow of Cape Cod. It proved to be quite idyllic and had a genuine New England charm about it. The town was full of clapperboard type houses, quaint shops and no brash burger chain type restaurants. The beaches were deserted and this was on a pleasant September day. The town also has a picturesque harbour area which again was very tranquil on our visit - the only others we saw while there were a few local pelicans waiting for the day's catch to come in.
