Chennai also know as Madras, is the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu in India, situated in the East coast. It is one of the largest metros in the country. There are dominant British influences in the form of old Cathedrals, Buildings and style of architecture and the wide tree lined avenues. In spite of that , It is probably the only city in South India that has still retained its traditional look. One can still see the front of the houses decorated with 'Rangoli' patterns drawn by women from traditional Hindu households. One can also see a lot many of the men wearing dhotis and shirts and the ladies with long plaited hair with jasmine flowers and colorful ... HARDWORKING CHENNAI One impression I cannot disband from my eyes is the preceptive nature of the people in Chennai, they know what you want by just looking at you, anywhere you stop and address a person he has genuine interest in you, he looks at you with feelings and understanding. It does not matter how different you are or how extra ordinary you are, you are not a curiosity in Chennai, nobody stares at you, even if they know you are a stranger they dont bother you. Inter-city bus services are excellent- the tourist coaches to cities like mathurai (sp?) Trichy etc., are safe, and comfortable, and economical too. People here are used to more relaxing life-style, so you may notice things moving 'slowly'. Avoid drinking tap-water, and eating at road-side stalls. ... Read the complete review

If you want to get off the beaten track ( the Goa-Bombay- Agra-Delhi circuits) and experience a totally new Indian experience, go to Chennai (formerly Madras). Keep chennai as a base and you can devour all the splendours of South India from there. Now most people alien to India should realise that there is a north south divide. North India is heavily influenced by Mughal invaders and is a mishmash of cultures. South on the other hand, represent something truly unique- a mostly uncorrupted Dravidian culture:ancient Hindu temples, musical language and an aromatic cuisine the likes of which you'll never see in an English curry house. Chennai was the ... Read the complete review
