Madras, now known as Chennai, offers totaly different experience than Bombay/ Delhi. I enjoyed all my three visits to Madras. People planning to go should avoid the summer months (May/June/July and Prob. August) - very bad weather (hot and humid) and shortage of water too. But the winter season is great. Inter-city bus services are excellent- the tourist coaches to cities like mathurai (sp?) Trichy etc., are safe, and comfortable, and economical too. People here are used to more relaxing life-style, so you may notice things moving 'slowly'. Avoid drinking tap-water, and eating at road-side stalls.
