Chuncheon Dam is much smaller than its counterparts but its location is no less spectacular. In a haze of fine drizzle, my bus ride took me on a winding route along the lake passing lofty pine forests and gentle peaks draped in mists. The beauty of this place defies description, at least by this pen. IN THE CITY ACCOMMODATION Having stayed at the Green Jang Motel twice, I'd recommend it as the best budget option in the city centre. Chuncheon nestles snugly below the forested peaks of the Diamond Mountains. With clear blue lakes to the east and west, the capital of Gangwon Province forms an idyllic gateway to Korea's major mountain recreation area and the wonderful East Sea coastline. Tragically overlooked by most visitors, this sleepy city of 200,000 inhabitants deserves more than just an overflight on the way to Seoraksan.
