Colombia

Description: Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia (Spanish: República de Colombia), is a country located in the ... more
Colombia ... northwestern region of South America. Colombia is bordered to the east by Venezuela and Brazil; to the south by Ecuador and Peru; to the North by the Atlantic Ocean, through the Caribbean Sea; and to the west by Panama and the Pacific Ocean. Colombia is the only country in South America that borders both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Colombia is the 26th largest nation in the world and the fourth-largest country in South America (after Brazil, Argentina, and Peru), with an area seven times greater than that of New England and more than twice that of France. Its vast territory is made up of diverse physical contrasts ranging from the towering snowcapped peaks of the Andes to the hot and humid plains of the Amazon River Basin, to a vast tropical coastal plain in the north. It the second most populated nation in South America (after Brazil), and the largest Spanish speaking nation on the continent in terms of population. Despite its large territory, Colombia's population is not evenly distributed with most Colombians living in the mountainous western portion of the country as well as the northern coastline, most living in or near the capital city of Bogotá. The Southern and Eastern portions of the country are mostly sparsely inhabited tropical rainforest and inland tropical plains containing small farming communities and indigenous tribes.

I have visited Colombia several times during the last few years. It is a country of serene and varied landscapes, colonial towns, golden beaches, forests, rivers, charming villages, vibrant towns, and smiling welcoming people for whom, genuinely, nothing is too much trouble. Most of the country enjoys a stable climate without extremes or major seasonal variations, and Bogota, founded in 1538, surrounded by spectacular Andean foothills, has one of South America’s more agreeable climates. Premium Review My ADDICTION Story (1189 words)

An opinion on Colombia with the word addiction in it - must be about drugs. How did I know you thought that - because it's natural of anyone without a true knowledge of Colombia. What the average punter would know Colombia for is it's drug dealing reputation and internal conflicts in the form of the guerilla force FARC and the government forces, who are in constant feud, no matter how much President Pastrana tries to calm things. But Colombia has a lot more to it than drugs and war. The two bad points of this incredible country have been picked up on and been built up into vicous rumours which to a large extent are bringing Colombia down. If ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review my heart bleeds for Colombia (265 words)

Its almost as if there's some sort of cosmic balancing out going on. Take what's probably the most beautiful country in the world, and put a vicious civil war on the other side of the scales. Colombia has it all, from Pacific and Caribbean beaches, through some of the best rainforest in the world, to the soaring Andes. As if that wasn't enough, the Andes splits into three ranges, so you have different environments and wildlife in the wide valleys of the Cauca and Magdalena rivers and the foothills to the East and West. When you first arrive, it may take a while to adjust to the heat of the tropics. The Andes comes to the rescue, with the ability to ...  Read the complete review
