Advantages: Nice relaxed atmosphere

Disadvantages: flying there can be hard and expensive

I am surprised Columbus does not have its own spot on the Ohio corner. Surprisingly it's the capital of Ohio!!
I have recently visited Columbus, Ohio, as a prospective place to live. I spent one great week in this incredible city.
All my life I heard people talking down on the Midwest region, so I thought I would check it out for myself. Making my own mind it's definitly a great city.
One thing you will notice is people in America in general are a lot fatter (no intentions to offend anyone, it just seems people don't look down on being fat as much as they do over here). Columbus is also a big academic centre as it hosts OSU- Ohio State University, and its enormous campus. The campus is very well organised and caters for everyones tastes. Collegiate sport is very big in the city and very often there are football, soccer, lacrosse and other matches in the University stadium. Somehow collegiate sport is much more fun to watch than professional sport.
Being in the Midwest Columbus is a lot cheaper than cities like Boston, New York and Los Angeles. So shopping here can be a good thing, even though you probably don't have as much choice as you do in other big cities. Believe me I thought I had more than enough choice in Columbus when I was there. Eating out is quite good in Columbus too. There is plenty to choose from. From Mexican, to Chinese and Japanese, to the traditional American food. Be warned portions are big and enough to feed you for the whole day. if you cannot finish it ask for a take home box, it's not offensive at all and everyone does it! Afterall you are paying for the food! If you like cheesecake go to the cheesecake factory at Easton Mall. There are over 100 cheesecakes to choose from.
Easton mall is a very nice place to go when it's nice and sunny as this is an outdoor Shopping centre. You can spend a whole afternoon of shopping and eating at Easton and have a very pleasant day.
Other highlights in C
olumbus are the zoo. During the spring/summer period particularly all the animals are out and wide awake. Columbus has one of the best zoos in the midwest. The animal collection is vast, and again the park is a very pleasant area to spend an afternoon.
COSI is like a Science exhibition in downtown Columbus. It is a very fun one too, full of lots of curious things to learn about. It's probably more geared towards children, so if you are visiting Columbus with children it is a must see, but even if you aren't there is plenty to see and learn there. Plus you can always get a good look of the whole city as a whole.
Downtown Columbus has a few highrises, but it is not suffocating like most American cities. It's nice that it has nice quiet residential areas that resemble nothing like a busy American city. Overall it is a very pleasant city to live and work (and cheap too!!)
It definitly turned my mind!

Any discussion about Columbus must acknowledge that they are the third gayest city in America after San Fran and new York
