Copenhagen ... the government, and the monarchy. The original designation for the city, from which the contemporary Danish name is derived, was Kjøbmandehavn, "merchants' harbor". The English name for the city is derived from its German name, Kopenhagen. The element hafnium is named after the city's Latin name, Hafnia.

Copenhagen is a beautiful city and is brilliant place to visit. I went with a couple of friends for a long weekend and he all loved it. The best way to get around Copenhagen is to hire a bike, there are separate cycles lanes so it is really safe and everyone does it. I visited Copenhagen in February 2004 - my first foray into Scandinavia. I flew Scandinavian Air Services (SAS) and landed after a stop in Billund, at Kastrup airport Copenhagen. Of all the airports I have visited in the world, none are anyway near as good as Kastrup. It is, firstly, really easy to negotiate and the transfer from plane to train to the centre of Copenhagen is so easy. More than this though, this airport is the only one in the world that I have ever wanted to photograph. Everything about the ariport is stylish and ultra-modern. The buildings, the walkways and the seats are all great examples of amazing Danish design. The train to central ...  Read the complete review

Copenhagen To celebrate a recent birthday (I forget the exact number) my wife treated me to a weekend away. I say treated me but we actually cashed in ten years worth of MY hard earned Airmiles and she paid the balance, but it's the thought that counts. We had intended to visit Vienna but upon realising that our visit would coincide with the semi finals of the Euro 2008 tournament - you know, the one we didn't qualify for - we decided that rather than share a romantic weekend away (sans children) with two hundred and fifty thousand tanked up footie fans (half of whom would be mightily annoyed by the end of the day) we would look elsewhere. It didn't take ...  Read the complete review

Last New Year my partner and I fancied getting away and decided to book ourselves a last minute short City break over the New Year period. As we booked last minute there wasn't an excess of choice and that is how we ended up choosing Copenhagen as our eventual destination. FIRST A BIT OF BACKGROUND. *********************************** Copenhagen began as a small fishing village and rose to become the Capital City of Denmark, in Northern Europe. It is the largest City in Scandinavia with a population of about 1.7 million and is situated on the island of Zealand. The main language spoken is Danish although most of the Danes speak English. We didn't ...  Read the complete review

This is the capital city of Denmark and also has the honour if being the largest city in Scandinavia. I ventured here not really knowing what to expect as I had never been to Scandinavia before. Having arrived here on the back of a trip to Eastern Europe my first eye opener were the prices. At the time we were travelling on a tight budget and so we knew that we had to tread with care. It is probably one of the best cities I have found for walking around and being able to reach most landmarks without the use of public transport. Here I never encountered the aching feet which seem to accompany trips to other capitals! So what is there to see? * ...  Read the complete review
