Advantages: Climate, variety of resorts, cheap good food
Disadvantages: Longish transfer times from airport to most resorts
Corfu is a truly wonderful island. Its climate is perfect (warmth guaranteed from early May to late September), the food and wine cheap and of good quality and the locals charming. Whether you are looking for a holiday where you party hard by night and sleep by day or if you are simply wishing to treat the family to a couple of weeks in a relaxed warm climate then Corfu is for you. Such is the diversity of the island that you can take your pick of resort. Clubbers must surely choose Kavos. Bars and clubs throb all night and thankfully tone it down during the day a bit to allow some rest to be taken on the beach or in your appartment! For younger people this is the most popular resort. However if rest and relaxation is your style, try Kassiopi to the North East of the island or Sidari in the North West. The former resort is a splendid place set in a "natural" harbour. Restaurants (such as the fabulous Three Brothers) line the harbour front and allow you to relax from your stressful day. This could have included sun-bathing, sightseeing (Corfu Town is a mere 1 hour or so away) or island hopping by boat. Kassiopi boasts many boat trips to practically every part of the Island and neighbouring areas. I tried the trip to Paxos and it was extremely pleasant. Additional evening wine and dine cruises can be taken to allow you to cool off from the day's warm sunshine. A trip to Corfu Town must be taken wherever you stay so that you can purchase the essential holiday gifts - choose from the popular leather, lace and carved wood shops to remember your holiday to this fantastic Greek island.

- 30/07/01 I'm off to Corfu with 25 of my mates, all 19-20 year old blokes, we banned women from this trip for our own privacy and safety! Should be a good laff if what you're saying is true! I can't wait. Good op. |
