Advantages: Lovely country, lovely people
Disadvantages: Corfu airport
Yeah, I know it's an old cliche, but Corfu relly HAS got something for everybody. If you want to party until the early hours then resorts like Kavos and Benitses will keep you happy. If you prefer somewhere busy but not rowdy then Ipsos or Dassia may suit, and there are a whole host of small, out-of-the-way quiet resorts for the boring old gits like me. Personally, I find the best way to explore Corfu is to hire a car (its not expensive), buy a map, and just see where you end up. Doing just that, we found a gorgeous secluded beach that was only used by a couple of locals..there were no sunbeds, shops or facilities of any kind. We just lay there in the sun with a good book each and relaxed. Heaven! The Greeks I've always found really friendly (except possibly on Crete) and they love children. We lost count of the number of free sweets, lollipops and small souvenirs our kids were given by locals wanting to make friends. There are some great beaches on Corfu, but curiously enough my favourite resort (Kontakali) doesn't have a beach at all. But be warned...Corfu airport is chronic. Expect a long wait for your belongings when you arrive (even when its quiet) and a trolley for your luggage?? Forget it!!
