We hadn?t expected more than two tracks, a railway station snack, a few dirty toilets and a drafty maintenance hall, and there certainly wasn?t much more either. Corinth itself is a very loud city, at least it was in that part in which we stayed for a few hours. Its streets are constructed like New York, many parallel streets and many crossroads all in an angle of 90°. In ancient times, Corinth was, together with Athens, the richest and most important trade city of Greece. Probably in the 9th century BC, it was established by the nomad Dorians. Corinth lies in the middle of Greece close to the deep gulf of Corinth that separates the Peloponnese from the remaining mainland. The person responsible for the name of the city was probably the mythical figure Korinthos, a son of Zeus and/or the marathon. Before that time, Corinth was supposed to have been called Ephyra, after Ephyre, a daughter of the Okeanos. On our way from Athens to Patras we needed to take a break in Corinth.
