Advantages: French flair., Clean and entertaining., Lots to do.

Disadvantages: Purchases overpriced - shop around., The minitrain ride around the town - there are two different rides although this is not clear when buying your ticket ., Poor transport links around the island - an alternative is using a taxi but this can end up expensive.

I visited Corsica as part of a cruise holiday three weeks ago. It was one of the gems of the many countries I visited during my time at sea. It had distinct french flair which was refreshing after visiting so many dirty and graffiti-ridden Italian resorts such as Naples.

There are many shops and cafes on Corsica, particularly in the island's capital, Ajaccio. However the price of snacks can vary, for example an Ice Cream in one Glace Cafe was 19f (£1.90) whereas in one cafe further down the street the same ice cream was priced at 10f (£1.00). Trivial, I know, but it does pay to shop around - even for the smallest items or snacks.

The usual traders line the popular seafront of Ajaccio with fake watches, leather goods and laser pens (these are now illegal in the UK so be wary) which are always popular with children. The traders are easily confused so try to pay in French Francs (although at a push they will except anything).

The home of Napeolean is also interesting, and is free for children and teenagers who reside in the EU (how they distinguish Ido not know). Flash photography and videocameras are prohibited inside the residence, although most guides turn a blind eye.

The moutains of Corsica are a supersight, particularly against the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea.Well worth a trek if you are staying for longer than a day or two.

An excellent and intriguing island - with added french charm.
